      @MrMalachiCrunch:

      I think had there been more Canadian units who spoke French and had French speaking command structures and maybe based out of Quebec more would have served.  It seems nowadays Quebecers proudly serve the Canuck armed forces and I would wager they over-represent the armed forces per capita.

      I’d agree with the former and the latter definitely seems difficult to dispute… although the lads from the Maritimes might give em a run for their money eh

      hmm…

      You sure? 8-)

      I meant blue on the jpg map.

      But anyway, I’m looking at the map you’ve kindly provided…. hmm looks like France more than it does Spain to me.
      Are you sure?

      Of course it’s hard to tell… do we even know if it’s considered straits in the rules?

      I wonder if as that Greatest Generation dwindles in numbers if it will spark nostalgic demand for more WW2 themed games or a tendency to try marketing games based on conflicts before or after WW2…

      @ABWorsham:

      The term Punic comes from the Latin word Punicus (or Poenicus), meaning “Carthaginian”, with reference to the Carthaginians’ Phoenician ancestry.

      Well yes, yes but when you studied it in high school surely some of your classmates didn’t find it so easy to connect the dots, hmmm?

      @reloader-1:

      I totally agree with FMG on this – Mechanized Infantry means mechanized infantry… It doesn’t mean “half-tracks”.

      Well I don’t know exactly who you think you’re disagreeing with.
      I don’t think anyone said it did mean half-tracks.

      For your peace of mind, rest assured mechanized infantry is firmly in my vocabulary.

      Hey now if the point you were trying to make was that when you see an armoured car sculpt on the mapboard you think mech inf.

      Well good for you.

      @Clyde85:

      Yes, this much I understand, but why would the fall of mainland france effect this? we know there will be no vichy rules, and to be entirely accurate, the other side was a Spanish colony in morocco, which will more then likely not be in the game.

      But I believe the map depicts it as French.

      @reloader-1:

      Wow – I think the Spanish might be a little upset that you gave Spanish Morocco to the French 

      Look at a map of the Western Med.

      Play on whatever you want to play on.
      Look at the map we’re discussing. Looks blue to me.

      @Dagon81:

      Are you creating French and Chinese units too? As these armies were more “limited” you could join them with some canadian units

      great idea!!! :-D :-D

      Hmmm I’d think it would be easier to just crank out more UK units just in a different shade for the Cdns.

    • RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread

      @FieldMarshalGames:

      It is just a piece than REPRESENTS a Mech Inf division.  In reality the division used Armored cars / Half tracks and Trucks….  get my point?

      Quite.

      Trucks were ubiquitous. So ubiquitous that the piece doesn’t seem to have a niche.
      But it’s not a question of what kit was in what unit. At a Divisional level (or even platoon level with trucks) it becomes rather nonsensical.
      The question, I believe, is what conjures up the appropriate unit in the player’s mind. While I agree that an Italian halftrack is off the mark, an Italian Armoured car, as I said, doesn’t work for me.

      My tough luck, I know.

      Luckily, I don’t see a pressing need to bring out trucks for all nations and so I can point to the Italian truck and the German halftrack and say they are the same.

      The question comes up because the opposite side of the GIB straits is a French colony.

      Probably why the idea of a campaign map + battle map on different levels seems to be so appealling.

      @Shakespeare:

      I am afraid this is all getting out of hand!    :-(

      So Bill, what you’d like to suggest to FMG is: crank out their Italians in two lines; the canonical units as a base set and an advanced set with pillboxes, trucks, commanders etc.

      Then the Germans as two sets, the Japanese as two sets etc. etc.

      Can’t really speed up production by just going for base or advanced as it might alienate part of their consumers…

      So really it’s just re-package them and maybe get more sales since then they’ll broaden their appeal and make each set less expensive?

      @Dylan:

      You should know about the War of 1812

      Why should he know? He may not be from the US, UK, or Canada

      Well see that’s what happens when you don’t come up with a better name for your war.
      War of 1812…. sheesh. LAME.  :|
      We should run a poll to come up with a better name… but I’d be afraid of what suggestions we’d see.
      :-o

      Of course speaking of lousy war names…

      @ABWorsham:

      @Dylan:

      @ABWorsham:

      I enjoy studying about the Punic Wars, I consider those three wars as the first World Wars.

      Was that

      Persia vs Greeks
      or
      Greeks vs Romans

      Rome and Carthage

      OK I imagine Dylan has to be scratching his head wondering how this got to be Punic?
      (And yes I know the answer)
      It’s like a history teacher named this just to make it more difficult!
