It also come without money, paper & pencils, or any other way to keep track of your money.
even if you don’t use the paper money, I think that kind of screams “cheap”
BTW I praised you so quit yer whining. :-P
hey now, you put Bomba’s ol’ NATO, Nukes and Nazis and A&A mechanics together and you got my vote.
Crank up the Death Ray!! :evil:
How about including inflation…
I dunno about that…. but importing N3’s political index would rock :mrgreen:
@Imperious:
You could just have all defending units fire first, remove attackers that got hit, then remaining attackers fire
hmmm that would make amphib invasion awfully lethal and tricky…… :-D EXCELLENT
@Imperious:
The other thing is to model the actual competition of CPC and KMT, where they can fight each other as well as Japanese.
Yes they had a truce, but it was plausible that at any time the nationalist would go back to fighting the Communists.
Agreed. Just need to concoct some good carrots to dangle in front of the US and USSR players so that they can try to walk that line toward individual victory, letting neither the Japanese or their “ally” dominate China.
@Imperious:
I don’t see any need to allow the Soviets to enter China or mess with Japan unless Japan attacks first.
sorry let me clarify: I didn’t mean that the Soviets would add that one Russian infantry into China. It would be placed in a Russian territory on their side of the Sino-Soviet border.
Sort of Stalin’s second-thoughts about how close those panzers are… diverting materials to kit out another Stalingrad-bound division. “Better luck next turn Mao” :-D
@Cmdr:
Again, the difference is that TripleA is blatant, outright theft of proprietary material….There is quite a difference between going after people who play your game, and people who steal your game.
@Subotai:
TripleA did not steal anything, now you are delusional again!!!
well - from an outside POV - I think a key question is: could you play TripleA reasonably well having never purchased a WOTC/Hasbro product?
If TripleA is providing a good that replaces the product then it’s not unreasonable to view it as IP theft, IMO.
I received an official response from Wizards of the Coast to my email (organized as Veqryn suggested).
They said:
Thank you for contacting us with your concern.
Wizards of the Coast has licensed Axis & Allies and other Avalon Hill games to GameTableOnline.com for online play. We encourage Avalon Hill fans to visit Game Table Online to continue their online play experience.
So, I suppose there is not any planning of doing computer games or other. The reason for the legal action agaisnt TripleA is that GTO has the license for online play.
:-(
I gather TripleA was free and GTO is not?
Makes you wonder what GTO was thinking.
Pay for the rights to market something when people are already using the product for free?
What kind of cabron buys a ring for the village bicycle?
@Imperious:
Fighter Bomber is the generic term for all the tactical bombers… move 2…
Move 2? 1/2 of OOB fighter?
@ABWorsham:
If the subject were expansed to any military commander throughout history, who would you choose?
BGen Sir Harry Flashman VC, 8-) follow him anywhere
Just my humble opinion, but seems that the AA50 treatment of subs generates a good chunk of inquiry…
so why not make a sticky thread for all sub rules questions and answers?
Not the tactical kind of question (what do you do with the sub at sz4) or asthetic (don’t the German subs look much sexier than the Russian) but cut-n-dry clarification stuff.
Heck, call it the Sub Pen or something if it “floats your boat” (every pun intended).
OK not sure about limiting what the US / UK can place in China….
I was previously thinking that the CPC should get 1 infantry for any Chinese territory (including Kwangtung) occupied by any Imperialist devils… US / UK / Axis.
Except that encourages US/UK deployment…
BUT :-D if one goes with your reduced combat value of CPC and their “melt away on joint defense” option there’s a motive for the US/UK to limit their deployment, keeping CPC numbers low enough to permit more reliable KMT placement… hmmm.
Another wrinkle on Anglo-Soviet cooperation in China, I was thinking that the Soviet player could opt to place no new CPC infantry and instead place 1 Russian infantry in a Russian-controlled territory bordering China.
Thinking you can’t arm everybody [univeral QM principle: but if I issue it to you I won’t have it in stores!]
And - most importantly - gives the Soviets a nice little option to betray both their clients and the Yankee pawns! :evil:
But need to restrict how often that happens so the Russians don’t do it every turn and Novosibirsk becomes an infantry mill. :|
@Imperious:
naval radar developed only insofar to made surface naval units aware that air units or ships were coming up or near.
Now that’s what I’m talking about!
Now does that early warning should merit any bonus…. :?
There’s the question.
@Imperious:
I don’t think the game should include rules of sighting or locating ships by way of search rolls and modifiers for some kind of technology for locating them. We tried this in AARHE and it was too tedious ( version 2.0 i think)
Agreed. I wouldn’t want to add more rolls to the process… except that ASW thing but that’s another thread.
You don’t get it. It is not a 3 in defens for inf, but a 1:1 match for inf and arty.
OK, so which one of us doesn’t “get” the proposed house rule?
@Game:
When an infantry defends along with an artillery, the infantry’s defens increases to 3.
Trust me, I got it thanks. :wink:
I just don’t agree with that increase in lethality for every arty + inf combo. Big difference between Stage 6 dug-in and Maginot Line… and that’s where I draw it. IMO, naturally.
Now, as expressed in another thread, I can get behind the idea that arty defends at 1 and Armour at 2 AND those types of units receive a +1 on defense when paired with inf on a 1:1.
Avalon Hill/Wizards/Hasbro can really learn something from Fantasy Flight Games in this respect. FFG does loads of previews, articles about design decisions, pictures, rulebooks etc on their website. Their customer support is also really top-notch; when I bought Descent from them and was missing one die (one of the two yellow ones) I emailed them and got a complete set of dice for free.
I can really see why FFG is so popular these days; they make top-notch games and their product support and information-on-website are absolutely world class. Learn AH, learn!
hmmm must be that thang I read aboot… whaddiya callit… Ad-ver-tizin’
Most companies: Sell the sizzle.
The chimps: sizzle? steak? we ain’t got no steak. I got no comment on sizzle.
@Imperious:
Whatcha think?
I think you looked at my AA50 house rules posted last year and added about 20% more.
So they are just great
Well then you sir would be mistaken.
And I guess I just have to get used to this sense of humour of yours.
well I wasn’t thinking radar directed AD but just shipboard detection of incoming AC.
But then again, as it turns out, Katfish’s House Rule hasn’t got anything to do with ships at all… 8-)
OK tinkering with an idea here….
CONTROL
1. The CPC is controlled by the USSR Player in a manner identical to the US-Chinese arrangement OOB.
SET-UP
2. Replace the infantry starting in Suiyuan with Communist Chinese (CPC) infantry… maybe use the Russians from AA Pacific.
3. Remainder are KMT and function pretty much like OOB.
CPC PRODUCTION & NEW UNIT PLACEMENT
4. The CPC “grows” 1 infantry for every Originally Chinese territory controlled by the Axis. (The idea here is that the brutal occupation is what aids recruiting.)
5. These infantry may be placed only in Original Chinese territories that are unoccupied or contain 1 CPC infantry. If a territory contains 2 or more CPC then no new units can go there.
6. If no valid territories exist then the unplaced CPC infantry are “lost”.
7. Note that if a territory contains 1 CPC and 1 (or more) KMT unit(s) the new CPC can still go there. BUT if only the KMT were there then the new CPC infantry cannot be placed there.
KMT PRODUCTION & NEW UNIT PLACEMENT
8. CPC controlled territories count towards the KMT calculation.
9. However, the OOB 2:1 ratio is only rounded up if the Burma Road territories (Burma, India and Yunnan) are under KMT control or UK or US hands. Axis control or USSR or CPC occupation rounds down the 2:1 calculation.
10. As long as the Axis do not control any of the Burma Road territories the US may replace that fighter.
11. CPC count towards the 3 unit maximum for placing KMT on the US turn.
MOVEMENT
12. Neither CPC nor KMT can move outside the Original Chinese boundary.
13. KMT units cannot enter a territory where CPC units would outnumber them at the end of that movement phase.
COMBAT
14. KMT and CPC cannot attack jointly nor with their US / USSR “patrons”.
15. When attacked the Russian / CPC player has the option of retreating (without casualties) his infantry to any neighboring Original Chinese Territory not occupied by the Axis.
INCOME
16. No one collects income for territories occupied by Chinese forces.
Whatcha think?
hey now, you put Bomba’s ol’ NATO, Nukes and Nazis and A&A mechanics together and you got my vote.
