I don’t get that last part though. So tipping them down shows the unit and the number of units is shown on the side facing the opponent?

By the way, do the US and Japanese neutral rules still apply? As in the rules prohibiting the US to park ships near Japanese territory or the rules prohibiting Japan to move ships within a certain amount of sea zones to the continental US.

Can nations remain neutral if they want to?

@All-Encompassing-Goose said in Converting Revised To The Modern Era?:

I’ve heard this game can last for days and can be a real slog. Is there a setup for this game that makes it better?

      djudication System:
The determination of who wins a game will be based upon the control of Victory Territories (VTs). The Victory City method of determining a winner will NOT be used. Each side controls 12 Victory Territories at the beginning of the game. The Victory Territories are listed below.

      AXIS POWERS

      GERMANY
      Germany
      Western Europe
      Southern Europe
      Eastern Europe
      Ukraine SSR
      Norway

      JAPAN
      Japan
      Manchuria
      French Indochina
      Philippine Islands
      East Indies
      Borneo

      ALLIED POWERS

      USSR
      Russia
      Caucasus
      Archangel
      Novosibirsk

      UK
      United Kingdom
      India
      Anglo-Egypt
      Australia

      USA
      Eastern US
      Western US
      Hawaiian Islands
      Sinkiang

If a player holds 18 (or more) VTs for a full round of game play (from the end of a countrys turn to the beginning of that same countrys next turn.), then that player automatically wins.
In the event of a VT tie at the end of the game, whichever side increased its IPC total is the winner. If the game is still tied after reviewing the IPC totals. If a player chooses to concede before the game has reached the 18 VT automatic win threshold or the game time limit 6 Rounds. The winner will be give a victory total of 19-5.

If no time limit, call it after 6 rounds (bid of 3-5 to Allies is the most balanced) if you have a time limit 4.5 hours for experienced players or 5 hours if less experienced/will play slower. Just ensure you get 5 or 6 rounds in.

@hengst This house rules forum is full of ideas. To avoid scripted games you need a varaiety ways to win or lose a game in a reasonable amount of time ,eg 8 to 12 rounds.BBR and 3G40 are rulesets that encourage you to win by achieving various victory objectives.(not just victory cities)
3G40 changes turn order, merges Anzac into UKPacific, and sticks pretty close to oob rules.BBR is more complex than oob and is real popular. Both are designed to play in 1 day and to be able to declare a winner.

This game is awesome! Ignore the haters! In my humble opinion, Germany should be given more resources for the chaps who pursue Europe First. Or implement house rule that says a certain portion of every turn’s IPCs must also be used purchasing resources to only be used in the Pacific.

you can use different colored chips underneath your G40 sculpts to represent different unit types. i do this. you will also need ports (minor, major port, minor major dockyard, minor and major shipyard, airfields, fortifications, coastal guns, in port markers, rail roads, damage markers, and many others to pay the game though.

@aegiscruiser117 From what I understand, they were specifically going more for a “Beer and Pretzels” feel with this one, so things are simplified a bit.

      Crazy!

You have some of the most interesting ideas on this forum.

I would only have the two boards fighting each other change and the part where the boards don’t wrap around, but not the Panama Canal or national objective rules-just a few questions and recommendations:

So I assume that West India is given back to UK Europe, and Western Canada is given back to UK Pacific-is that right? Thank you!

Is there a capital for the Soviet Far Eastern territories?

You might need to make a new map, as the proportions on the map do not allow for your idea to work effectively, unless they are already explained before playing, but that might be tough, especially with the sea zones.

For national objectives, change all references for the respective powers from Allies or Axis to the respective map alliance (of course, this means Japan get all their national objectives, but it also means that Italy and Germany get most of their national objectives as well).

Finally, all Soviet national objectives should be given to the Europe side (how the Soviets will get their Berlin national objective is if they liberate it, there is still the first time rule), and all Pacific related national objectives should go to the US Pacific, and all Europe related national objectives should go to Europe US. This assumes that all national objectives are for the global version. The 10 IPCs for the US control Eastern, Central, and Western United States is split evenly between US Europe and Pacific
