Replacement cardsposted in Axis & Allies: D-Day
Aaarghh! I just found that some kind of waxy substance has gotten on to both card decks somehow while they were in the box?!? Doesn’t look like glue as I don’t use anything brown so I have no idea what it could be. Anyway, it’s spilled over the side so the top and bottom cards are hit worst, but really I need to replace the complete decks. Anyone know if replacements are available?

RE: Quantity has a quality all it's ownposted in Customizations
Armor support: HBG’s excellent T.34, T.26 and KV2 tanks along with the OOB IS-2 Stalin; all painted in basic 4BO green with rust brown tracks. Russian made equipment almost never had red stars painted on apart from a few Guards units. Only lend-lease stuff had stars to ward against friendly fire

Soviet reinforcements, all the way from Siberia. Shown on a ‘painting stick’ which makes painting 20 figures at a time much easier to handle.
I also experimented with twisting the heads and altering foot positions on some to give a more ‘dynamic’ pose. Urra!

RE: Midway US Destroyersposted in War at Sea
Perhaps the simplest conversion yet: USS Monssen, a Gleaves class destroyer which is basically a Fletcher with the #3 turret replaced with additional light AA guns. Taking the WAS Fletcher, I removed the #3 turret and superstructure aft of it, also the searchlight platforms on the after funnel, being careful to leave the 20mm mounts below them. A new, single searchlight station was mounted in the previous turret location and the after mast added from nylon bristle. I also replaced the overly thick main mast with one cut from nylon bristle.

RE: My Painted Europe 1940 Setposted in Customizations
I have looked at I-94’s decals and thought about it… the only ones I have trouble with are the Russian stars. I enjoy hand painting the insignia and I feel like it makes it look more uniform when it’s all paint, but like you said, it would definitely save some time
Well you could save some effort there as Moscow ordered upper wing stars to be painted out on the eve of the German invasion……plain green was also changed to green with a black disruptive camo pattern http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/index.html

RE: Extending/gluing bigger gun on a T/34\. plz help???posted in Customizations
Well the turret on the 85 is quite different, it would almost be worth carving a new one out of balsa, although you could build on the existing one using modeling putty. Either way, you need to add a cupola from a small disc of plastic on the left side of the roof in the commander’s position as they all had them.
The gun is best made from a thick nylon bristle from a kitchen broom or similar; a quick trip to the Dollar Store or Pound Shop will provide literally hundreds if not thousands of gun barrels, ship masts, flag poles, spears etc for all your table top armies - without triggering the wrath of she-who-must-be-obeyed
The 85 is mounted lower in the turret than the 76 so cut off the original and make a hole in the center for your new gun tube. And don’t forget to post pictures when you’re done!

Got it. The 30mb file is too big for Foxit reader to handle - that was the problem :-P

Amazing! Great work DM - when I look at these I can almost hear the Panzerlied or the theme from Battle of Britain playing in the background - you ought to do that on You Tube some time 8-)

RE: Custom paint jobs: D-Dayposted in Customizations
Thanks guys! The flight stands are a great help when map spaces get filled with ground units too; I made them from a panel nail, lead fishing line weight and a fender washer.
The 25pdr is the standard game 105mm piece with the trail legs bent inwards and a small spade made from scrap plastic. It sits on a quick traverse wheel for anti-tank work which is simply a small trim washer

Custom paint jobs: D-Dayposted in Customizations
So my lovely wife gives me the D-Day set for Christmas a few years back and after a few enjoyable games, I just couldn’t live with hard to see black pieces and the 8th Army wearing shorts in Normandy. So I set to with brushes, glue and paint, here be the results:
UK (left) and Canadian (right) infantry

German army & SS infantry

British & US Airborne infantry with blockhouse

RAF and US Bombers

UK Sherman tank & 25pdr gun

I hear you there, although the little DD’s and DE’s aren’t too bad - especially if you do them all over sea blue. I’ve got a second Soryu on the way to convert to Hiryu using the guide posted here. Shapeways do one cheaper but I balked at the thought of trying to paint her deck markings!

Those bases are the best. I don’t have any though.
What bases? I don’t see a pic or link? :?

Doesn’t work for me _ I’ve tried several different versions and it just downloads a blank page every time

Basing naval minisposted in War at Sea
OK who among us bases their warships? While not really necessary for carriers and BB’s it’s really needed for those narrow bottomed, bendy light cruisers and destroyers. What do you guys use?
