ozone I’m the anonymous, the reason i use two planes and the sub is because it makes for a gauranteed kill. with only the possible loss of a sub. see the transport still gets to defend at one, if I attacked with planes alone I might loose one, and I need them to trap germany. Where as if i attacked with my transort and sub or just my sub, i only have a very low success rate, and you can’t have the sub or transport get loose. danwatkins01@yahoo.com

im sorry when i said i won’t believe germany can beat UK and Russia, stragety makes a difference. but if the combattants are equal germany is doomed

I just want to agree with ozone. how can anyone say attacking the pacific with the us is stupid. typically i find the US gets run poorly because they go last- they are usually bored or asleep-
the US can play a pivotal role early in the game. they need only help keep germany from blitzing africa- russia and UK can wear down and defeat germany alone.
the us can speed the demise of germany in turn 2-3 but in turn 2-3 they can be pumping troops into the soviet far east 4-6 inf per turn, while simultaneously robbing the japs of those 1-3 ipc islands in the pacific that are neglected as japan pushes west.
I will not believe that without an arse load of lucky rolls germany can wipe out russia and UK by turn 3, because by then the writings on the wall.
My fav is germany, but agianst a well organized enemy germany can’t win 30 +24= 54 germany starts with 32, - finland - lybia- algeria = 28 vs 58 two to one. only poor planning will squander this advantage. leaving the us free to blast japan. -
RE: RR & 2HBS - Can Germany Take UK in T1??posted in Axis & Allies Classic
well tha’s what i was getting at, geez 1 in 10 stinks, but typcally when i play germany, russia stacks karelia with a plastic mass of infantry. I haven’t found a real great way of breaking them of this, typically i back off europe to protect my flank while i swarm over afrika to build a diverse enouh army to crush them. but initially i would forgo the initial destruction of the british fleet and throw all my planes tanks and every available man at that wall, back then I thought karelia was the key, and it succeeded more than it failed. mostly because russia had no counter attack forces left and the allies were too busy trying to build complexes.
to the point … I figured it had at least that same ammount of risk-reward but with less crippling consequenses if you fail.
but it all hinges on russia forgetting to destroy the baltic fleet.
oh and i only mentioned the 14 year thing so you’d realize that you are 8 years less of a looser than me. quit while you’re ahead! -
Lame strategy 2posted in Axis & Allies Classic
I would like to contiue this discussion. I think it’s very important, and it’s why i registered. I kind of got included in the site bashing yesterday, but I wasn’t site bashing at all. I will grant that some strategies posted aren’t sound, and it almost seems as though some are reaching at times ( or illegal). however since no two gaming sessions are alike I think it’s not possible to sit down and say as country X you need to do Y.
I have been browsing the link sites, and I didn’t see any strategy any more impressive.
I think the over all stragety of the game is probably familiar to all of us. germany must attack - and since east is easiest - you attack russia first. most people defend with russia, and I personally have never had long term success throwing your armor away in the ukraine on R1. UK developes air and sea units to support usa troops, and japan goes against history and attacks russia to win the game.
these are all SOUND gameing strategies. but in the fluidity of the game that landing in alaska does develope, I’ve taken it and reinforced it enough to draw us troops away from a germany on the brink of collapse. to be honest I don’t think it’s possible to take the usa in a one day session. and the opposite holds true as well, I’ve taken canada to force a troop build up to prevent american ship building. I think such spoiling attacks are valid as strategy in so far as IF they are used to make your opponent react in a specific and desired way.
as you have noted looking for the early knock out, with a transport and one infantry is not very realistic. but if that guy slips into a capital captures thirty bucks then gets waxed well you’re still up nineteen dollars, and your enemies start second guessing them selves. maybe a generic strategy category, with a list of “watch for the opportunity” categories isn’t a bad idea. but i think the radical strategies still have a place assuming they are legal. some house rules by the way contain airborne assualts allowing bombers to deploy infantry and capture territory. -

wow, someone agreed with me, thanks deathflame. I prefer the armor to the two extra infantry- I guess it is somewhat cool to have a mass of armor…just personal preferece.
