    • RE: Anyone ever play Axis and Allies in a free for all format?

      America won’t be playing defensively either and if they just secure the Atlantic they can go into the Pacific right away and go island hopping which will hurt Japans income so they might be ahead of Japan and America can outproduce Japan if they basically go all Pacific and they are being defensive with their fleet in the Pacific and taking islands while waiting for Japan to counter attack so US might force Japan to build more ships then they would like rather then going all out mainland.

      Just a question … why were places like Rio De Oro and Saudi Arabia put in the game just to make it historic or something because they dont do much of ne thing and why is Argentina nuetral wouldn’t it be more on Germany’s side because I mean America gets Brazil (i’m not sure but wasn’t that more sided with Germany?)?

    • RE: Useless Land

      Getting back to the island value thing I think that in order to make islands more valuable to players there needs to be an increase in zones in the Pacific so that there is a need land in islands thus making people conquer them more. And as for Gibraltar I think that it should close the Med if it is taken because wasn’t it basically a fortress preventing ships from passing through into Atlantic?

      @Infantry:

      Well of course you take out the transport. With the destroyer it’s 6/7 to succeed. With the carrier as well (and frankly I see no better purpose for the carrier) it’s 100%.

      If you leave 4 infantry in india and Japan attacks with 2 infantry 4 fighters we have and preserves 1 infantry to take India we have:
      Attacker wins 71%
      Expected casualties:
      None 5%
      1In  13%
      1 ftr 2%
      1In 1 ftr 14%
      2 ftr 1%
      1In 2 ftr 17%
      1In 3 ftr 12%
      1In 4 ftr 7%
      2In 4ftr 29%

      Assuming no possible counter that’s an expectation of
      -26.83 Japaneese losses
      +10.5 British losses
      +4.38 expected territory gains
      = -11.95 IPC for the Japaneese

      And that doesn’t  include forgoing Pearl Harbor which is something like ~+20 for the japaneese. I would be more than happy to give up any strategic advantages India has for such a huge economic windfall.

      Better use for the carrier would be to save it to eventually be used to carry the fighter to maybe go island hopping when japanese fleet is distracted by the US. and i dont know wut yur numbers mean exactly but 3 ipcs is one less infantry that britain can build and 1 more that japan can build so if -11.95 IPC is wutever u say it is it will pay for itself in 4 turns but there is also the luck factor and everything which is the reason why you can’t only go by math

      multiple fighters? uk should b happy if they take out 1 because statistically it is 1/6 so if they only get to fire 4 shots thats less i cant do math but japan can take it on J1 if they realy wanted to … they could sacrifice fighters if they r desperate and if you didn’t take out the transport there is no need for fighter sacrifice because you can send in 4 inf nd a bomber

      this is true but there are tons of rivers all over the world and in WWII maybe there was no big war fought in N. america but in A & A however rare it is possible and yes the board would have to be huge

      @newpaintbrush:

      Using the UK bomber against Anglo is possible but risky.  Germany will often have a fighter at Libya that can be used to hit an isolated bomber.

      Indeed I never knew that it could reach but now even after seeing it I don’t know if I will do it.

      @cdassak:

      Shadow & Jen,

      Do you always stack 6inf in Bury on R1, regardless of KJF or KGF?

      By leaving Bury empty it allows Japan to leave Manchuria empty on their first turn since its not at threat by any Soviet troops

    • RE: Some advice for a CRAZY game…

      Well I have never played with tech rolls besides a few isolated rolls but I agree that India will fall without the Sinkiang IC so I agree Australia is good because if you want to kill his fleet and his islands then that would be a prime spot because of all the routes you can take. It would be a nice twist on how games usually work. Japan probably won’t be able to threaten Russia too much because they will have to invest heavily in navy.

      Which forces do you use for Ukraine and WRU assuming those are the battles you do. I am assuming that if you are attacking Belo you are using all inf and figs so you don’t lose offensive.

    • RE: ???I it possible to win with the Allies??? Please tell me!!!

      Although I have never played as the US succesfully I am just going to say that I think that the US should maybe build an AC on US1 and a DD in the Pacific depending on what they plan on doing with the Panama DD so that they can go and maybe take some islands and if the UK consolidates in SZ 30 then if the Jap Fleets aren’t combined yet they aren’t strong enough to attack a BB,DD,AC,2 Figs without heavy losses and then the US can maybe take East Indies and UK can take Borneo and then the fleets can combine and be on the defensive until the time is right. Commiting 16 maybe 28 IPCs to the Pacific to gain 8 IPCs shouldn’t be bad in the long run because if you are planning on focusing on Germany it will stall Japan which should help.

    • RE: Another KJF topic..

      @Sankt:

      Yes, I got some new ideas from a game I just played…

      This is what I propose:

      Have Russia and UK go “KGF”, stall Japan wherever possible but focus on getting your hands on German wealthy territories. Have US use their initial boats to contest Africa to keep UKs income up. Conserve and unite the pacific UK fleet. Unite the pearl fleet and add new elements to that US fleet using most of the US ipcs. If pearl was attacked, counterattack if possible. If that is not possible, I’m inclined to believe this tactic is not feasible.

      If money and circumstances permit you can build a UK factory in either India, SA or Australia. That’s highly conditional. What you must do, however, is use the british pacific fleet to exploit undefended or lightly defended Jap islands. All this while the US fleet stages outside Alaska/Canada. That will force Japan to make landings in Bury and possibly fend off US landings. Keep adding fleet elements to the US fleet and move troops to W.Canada.

      It is all a matter of balance, send just enough troops to secure or make Germany lose more IPCs than they gain in Africa. Have UK/Russia keep Germany in a stalemate. Keep the pressure up on the Canadian fleet.

      If Japan moves away from Japan it opens up a possbility for a direct invasion so make sure the US fleet has a few transports, troops and air units to pose a real threat. With this threat the UK fleet operating south should have pretty much free hands to take what they want. Japan should never be able to afford to split their fleet or move it south to attack. (Watch out for strafes that do not pull them out of position)

      Hopefully Japan will be busy dealing with US while their income slowly decreases and UKs increases. At the right time they might be pushed out of the Asian mainland. While Germany are in no way endangered at this point, I don’t see them posing an imminent threat to Russia either. I’m going to give this a try myself some time in the near future.

      If you don’t put an IC in India early on in a KJF strategy Japan will take it and you won’t be able to take it back without massive Russian support because Japan will probably have an IC on the Mainland and if they break through the Sinkiang IC (which you didn’t mention but is needed in a KJF) because of lack of support then they will have a big navy because of the Naval Race with the US you are proposing and if Russia went after the valuble German territories then the Eastern Front will be empty then your KJF strategy failed.  :-)

      That would be cool except if someone is going to research something they should be strong enough that they wont be losing otherwise they are stupid in wasting IPC’s for tech rolls

    • RE: How many ships do purchase as Germany in a typical game?

      With jet fighters you have much more mobility to move them to where you want. Although you can’t just leave them someplace by themselves it definently boosts your defense quicker then infantry can.
