    • RE: Alpha 3 due next week

      @jim010:

      Italy gets 1 bmb - small consolation for a fleet that is completely at the UK’s mercy.

      I don’t know if its at the UK’s mercy.  UK can’t possibly take it all out.  And with that Strat Bomber Italy can do some damage to the UK fleet in I1.

      I like the AA gun rule change.   This will make them a more important piece to purchase.

      Hmm.  Limiting your AA guns ability?  I suppose this is to get more AA purchases during the game.

    • RE: Global 1940 Review?

      @Bakufu:

      Hi All,

      I looked through the first 5 pages but don’t see anything relating to a review of A&A 1940 Global setup.  My friends and I are long A&A players, with our favorite edition being the anniversary edition, and we’re thinking of stepping this up to the Global 1940 edition.  Can any of you briefly explain your thoughts on this edition?  I read most of the rules and while they’re interesting, I feel they’re potentially limiting.  I.E. how does the “forced peace” type of deal play out for your games (where America can’t attack by turn x and Soviet Union cant attack so and so by turn x, etc)?  It’s seems incredibly restrictive and frustrating.  Besides, 3 turns for us takes us a long, long time.

      I also noticed that IPC’s can only be purchased for certain parts of the map, I.E. IPCS collected in Pacific can only be used in Pacific theater.  Is this true?  Seems excessively limiting as well.

      All in all I REALLY wants to like this game, I just have reservations from what I’ve read so far.  My group would be on the same page.  The board is beautiful, the miniatures are great, and the new units seem awesome.

      Please help me out!  Much appreciated, guys.

      Regards,
      Bakufu

      For one the IPC’s division only applies to the UK.  The UK is the only economy that is split.  Everyone else can put IPC’s on any location they can.  As far as the declaration of war, since there are 9 economies, Perhaps have someone who is playing the US also play someone who is already in the war.  Russia usually gets attacked early enough in the game that they are dragged into the war by turn 2 or so.  If Germany takes London in its turn 3, then the US can go ahead and attack.  I have played a few times and the game lasts SOOOO LONG sometimes up to 30 turns, that its not particularly limiting in my opinion.

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

      So here is my question.  Since all factories and bases have AA capability, when you send in air units, do all units fire for each plane?  I tried to find it in the rules and I can’t.  I know its probably in there and I am just not reading well enough.  Anyways whats the verdict?

    • RE: What is your most insane game of Global 1940?

      There was a game i was part of which saw Italy invade and take Washington DC.    Italy also had a Major IC in Brazil.  The weird thing that occurred was The Soviet Union had a part in taking back and liberating DC. Germany was pretty much decimated early in the game by horrible rolls and dumb moves (mostly on my part).  The game lasted around 35 rounds or so and took several weeks.  It was just an overall odd game. Japan ended up with most of Africa and ANZAC built a pretty formidable Navy and Air Force due to neglect by Japan.  Anyways I gotta say although it was a blast, I hope I don’t have another game like that for a while, it was pretty rough.

    • RE: Alpha 3?

      @thatonekid:

      @Peck:

      As for SBRs I have tried buying 2 lvl bombers 1ss first turn with Germany and on the second turn doing a major air raid on UK.  If uk intercepts they will loose lots of aircraft.  And even after the air battle the damage to the factory/airbase/shipyard should be close to maxed out.  This almost cripples them for a couple turns,  just as your buying your fleet for sealion.

      have you thought about using the SBr’s on england, while getting ready to launch a full scale invasion of russia??

      I did that one game.  It didn’t work out to well (mostly due to horrible rolls).  In the end I had to move most of my new forces to Russia to support heavy losses.  By the time I thought I was in reach of Russia, the US invaded Normandy and it was all downhill from there.  I think with a little more luck from the dice though, I could have pulled it off.  Just know that you have a huge risk of opening yourself up should it take too long and the US gets in the war.

    • Playing Global Online (vs Computer?)

      I have been playing AA Spring 42 online at Gametableonline.  I was wondering if there is anything like that out there for Global?

    • RE: What do you do with italy???

      @Dylan:

      Italy 1 save all 10 IPCS

      Capture Tunisia, Gibalter, Alexandria (usually pulled out of,) South France, Kenya, Greece and sink British and French ships using your navy and airforce. Italy collects 36 with NOS. Then buy 6 Tanks roll for the Ukraine. Once you’ve captured that you can prepare defense at home and you can mobilize right in Russia (keep making tanks.) Then keep on mobilizing mainly tanks to Ukraine. Then you should capture Egypt soon then your planes can be more used to attack Stalingrad along with your tanks and if not take it, Germany will kill it.

      Great plan, however you are a couple of bad rolls away from totally screwing the axis cause.

    • RE: In regards to China…

      However it appears that china is almost always going to be invaded right off the bat?  I haven’t played too much but that’s what is almost always done on J1 and J2.  I know I do when I play Japan.  Anyways I know thats for another discussion.  Thanks for answering my question.

    • In regards to China…

      I am sorry if this has been answered before, however I couldn’t find an answer on this.  When China is purchasing units, where can they place them?  China has no IC and no Capital City.  The rules are kinda vague from what I can tell.

    • Alpha question

      So since I am new here I got a question.  These Alpha rules that are developed, are they “official” or are they just developed by people here on the site and everyone just agrees to them.  How does this work exactly?

    • RE: A few questions…

      @knp7765:

      Also, remember that the Soviet Union, when at war, gets 2 extra infantry placed on Novosibirsk each round that they mobilize units.  These infantry are basically free infantry in addition to whatever the SU purchases.  They represent those 18 infantry placed in the far east in Global.

      I never knew that! Guess i should read more.

    • RE: Space issue.

      Sounds great.  I was thinking  about getting a vynal copy of the map and stick it to a piece of wood add some removable legs.  Then get a glass cover.  But then again that sounds like a lot of work.

    • Space issue.

      So I just recently got introduced to Axis and Allies by my father in law by playing the 1984 version.  I liked it so much that I bought Spring 1942 and the new Pacific and Europe 1940.  I didn’t realizing how huge the Global map is.  I don’t currently have a table big enough. What are some creative ways to have enough room to play short of playing on the floor?
