    • RE: Stupid Veteran Tiger!!!

I would suggest trying to surround the Tiger with like, 5-6 tanks.  Then no matter which way the Tiger is facing, he’ll always have an exposed rear/flank.

    • RE: Are fighters as mean as they seem?

Uhh, I’m at work right now, so I don’t have the rules right in front of me.  I was pretty sure, however, that given the turn order, fighters will have the opportunity to strafe units first, retreat back to the “fighter zone”, then the Axis moves, and THEN the 88’s try to shoot them down.  So, as long as you don’t place your fighters in a zone with enemy AA guns already in it, then they won’t have a chance to shoot your planes down, right?

I was also pretty sure that bombers get a “first strike” ability kinda like subs in Revised.  So, if they kill their target on the first try, even if it is an AA gun, it won’t get to fire back.

Please tell me if I’m correct on these points.  'Cuz if I am, then I would say that airforce is the main thing I like about playing the Allies.   :-D

    • RE: Alcohol in the Military?

You make a good point Frimmel:  Active duty military or not, it IS all about one’s ability to behave appropriately.  I’ve met some guys who are around 30, but they still can’t drink without acting like an a$$.  Other guys are underage, but can handle their alcohol responsibly.

    • Strategic Withdrawal for Germany

OK, I don’t know if everyone feels this way, but I feel that Germany is kinda set up for failure in the first round.  Whenever I’m setting Germany up at the beginning of the game, I always think “Why even bother putting units in West Russia?  There’s almost a 99.9978% chance that it’ll get taken.”  West Russia is not the only example of this either.  The Germans are just lined up to get raped by the Russkies.

Historically, things seemed to be going alright for the Nazis.  They were making a mad dash for Moscow, and seemed to be making good enough progress.  But eventually they expanded too far, and the Russians ended up pushing them all the way back to Berlin, by using superior numbers, not to mention partisan harassment. (sabotage of comm lines, railroads, etc.)  So, realizing that they were being overwhelmed, the Germans tried to pull back, regroup and consolidate.

Which is why I brought up this topic:  Would it be a good or a bad idea to allow Germany a first-round withdrawal?  :?

    • Alcohol in the Military?

I’m 23, so this is no longer an issue for me.  But I have heard people say that “if you are able to fight and die for your country, then you should be able to buy alcohol regardless of age.”  What do all of you guys think?

    • RE: Your view of the Portal

      Here’s my station:

And as far as my games go, I don’t have all of them at my place, but I own A&A Revised, D-Day, Pacific, Minis, and I don’t bother to remember the other games I own.  :-D

    • RE: All-time favorite video game?

As far as RPGs go, I might have to keep it old-school and go with Final Fantasy 6 (or 3 for Super Nintendo)

One that I’ve dug up recently is Roller Coaster Tycoon.

Two games that are classics for Genesis:

      With two players - Rampart

With four players - General Chaos!

Ahh, Jermo, you are right.  How could I forget that?  (Slaps self in the face)  Anyway, feel free, as I did with Mario Kart, to sort yours into categories.

    • RE: Set IV

I guess I have some kind of advantage - since I’ve pumped $1000+ into this game, all at the same store no less, the owner gives me discounts on my merchandise (not to mention a free t-shirt!  :-D)

Dude, those are ALL great games!

Mario Kart (16 bit) will go down in history as my favorite racing game ever.

GoldenEye is the FPS that started it all, not HALO like the young’uns might like to think…

This is kind of a change of subject, but Erwin Rommel is my hero.

But yes, I might just have to try that one next time I play.  (Hopefully soon.)

If I were to sort 'em into categories, then I’d say my favorite PC game is StarCraft!

    • All-time favorite video game?

Now, try not to include any version of A&A - I’m just trying to find out where we all stand with video game favorites…

I’d say my favorite that I played at the time it came out would have to be Zelda: A Link to the Past.

    • RE: Are fighters as mean as they seem?

Here’s a thought:  In the early parts of the game, before the Germans have had enough time to bring in massive numbers of reinforcements, is the best time for fighters to strafe 'em while they come in.  Because later, the board will be swarming with German units, and the Allies will not want to risk their fighters against 2-5 AA guns.

One thing I love using my fighters for is to defend liberated towns.  This is because of the first-strike ability, which the artillery don’t have; they just have to go toe-to-toe with their enemies.  Especially when the Allies have taken 2 of 3 towns, and the Germans have no hope of getting them back, that’ll free up some more fighters to use for this purpose.  I think it’s pretty intimidating for the Nazis to approach a city and find it being circled by 6-8 fighters, all rolling 1’s for every attacking unit.
