    • Where does E.T. come from?

This is a continuation of my previous “Aliens?” thread.  I’d like to find out where anyone thinks aliens (if they exist) actually come from.

I believe that they may be super-evolved human beings.  I believe this because to be similar anatomically suggests some kind of common heritage.  How they got here, back in our time, is all up to speculation.  My guess is that they got sucked through a series of worm-holes that, overall, sent them back in time to the prehistoric era, and they’ve been here, observing us, ever since.

What do all of you think?

Yeah, dude.  That answer was very thorough… Are you an alien?  8-)

    • RE: Aliens?

I totally agree with the point that we will never acheive world peace until a greater enemy appears. (aliens)  I guess it’s just in our nature to join forces against the greatest foe, and who can possibly be great enough of an enemy for the whole human race to unite against them?  Aliens.

How long do you think it would take for Mars to be habitable by creatures like ourselves?

    • Flavor?

I’m wondering if any of you guys add little trinkets to the board while playing.  Here are some of ours:

We call this the Hand of Destiny.  Germany’s just telling you “C’mon, bring it B*tch!”

You can also see Britain’s Sand Snake in the Sahara, as a deterrent.

The US has a Kennedy Half-Dollar under it’s IC and AA.  Tails-up, of course, because that side just looks cooler.  It also hints at America’s secretly Fascist nature.

    • Aliens?

Just wondering what everyone thought about the existence of aliens…

I happen to think that the universe is simply too forgin’ huge to not accommodate other life forms.  I also think that IF aliens are the little guys with big heads that people claim to have been abducted by, then they’ve got to be super-evolved human beings, since they have such a remarkably similar anatomy.

    • RE: Poll on German Strategy

I said Africa, but just like Rommel, I’m only usually interested in taking Anglo-Egypt so as to get the Brits out of there.  (And it’s worth 2, so it’s not a bad deal)  But the rest of Africa is not worth the trouble, and it will needlessly stretch your forces thin.

Furthermore, I would say that building an IC in Anglo-Egypt gives the US the green-light for Operation Torch.

3 days, 3 hours, and 10 minutes, all spread throughout a little over a year.  So I guess you guys are just blowing me away!  (Is that bad, or good?)  :-P

    • RE: Space Travel

Be careful with the whole “robots that can reproduce themselves” angle.  That approach can lead to some Matrix/Terminator style bad news.

But seriously, space exploration is a big deal if you ask me.  This little rock is getting overpopulated, not to mention stripped of all it’s resources. (mainly oil)  I just think it’s about time we settled somewhere else.  And personally, I’m enough of a space cadet that if I were given a choice like Gary Sinise was at the end of Mission to Mars, I would gladly take it, and hope that my family/friends would understand.

    • RE: Alcohol in the Military?

I like your approach Jennifer.  In fact, my mom told me that at age 15, she would sit down and have a drink with me, if only to teach me that alcohol is really no big deal.

Yes, I do know what Agent Orange was.  But it has been my tag of choice ever since I went on cruise in 2004.  I came up with it when we were playing Halo every night for about a month straight. (I know this came up in another topic.)

    • RE: What would you do

Just pay attention to what your opponents are doing.  Japan has quite a few options, because they have three land routes with which to carve their way towards Moscow.

And that’s just LAND routes.  As far as sea combat goes, there’s always Pearl, Buryatia like paintbrush said, and I have tried and succeeded in taking Australia first turn.

Now, not ALL of these things will be available to you, of course.  Again, it’s all about seeing where the Allies have massed their units.  And if you’re worried about Russia counter-attacking at all, I don’t know about that.  In my opinion, Russia has too few resources to be on the offensive against both Germany AND Japan.

    • RE: Kriegsmarine 2006!

I dunno how noisy nuke subs are in comparison, but here are the figures for the engines on my ship:

      SSTG (Ship’s Service Turbine Generator) – 1750 kw, 3 phase, 60hz, 45vac, 2800amps
      EDG (Emergency Diesel Generator) – 1000kw, 3 phase, 60hz, 450vac, 1600amps

Quite a bit more powerful, I’d say.  I guess that with the ever-changing conditions of modern warfare, it might be necessary to sacrifice engine power for more stealth.

    • RE: Stupid Veteran Tiger!!!

To add to what i said in my previous post about surrounding the Tiger, you might also want to bring your tanks in close, enough that if the Tiger tries to escape the snare, you can (hopefully) get a successful defensive fire.  That’ll disrupt him right away - perfect if you’ve had problems taking him out!  :-)

    • RE: Strategic Withdrawal for Germany

Y’know, you guys are right.  Whenever I’m Germany, one of the things I dread most is just setting up their pieces.  Maybe I’m not that coordinated, but fairly often I’ll drop a piece or knock one off of it’s chipstack, and if that happens in Europe before the beginning of the game, it spells certain DOOM.

I might go so far as to say that the Russians CAN’T afford to lose Caucasus.  If Germany takes it and holds it, Russia is hurting, and bad.

    • RE: Alcohol in the Military?

Jennifer, you are right about the military being able to buy alcohol anyway, but that’s technically illegal. (not to sound like a narc)  But if a 19 year-old soldier is pulled over for reckless driving, and it turns out he’s drunk, then he gets nailed for an underage DUI, at least as far as I know.

    • RE: Strategic Withdrawal for Germany

Maybe I misunderstood your post, but it sounds like you’re talking about Germany having the option to withdraw every time they’re attacked.  I’m not saying that - just that Germany seems so vulnerable, terribly vulnerable, at the beginning of the game, and I’m trying to relieve some of that tension.

    • RE: Curious Strategy was my downfall…..

I’ve played this game less than ten times, but each time I played, St. Lo was the last VC to be contested.  I think this is because the British are almost solely responsible for taking Caen, just as the US is almost solely responsible for taking Cherbourg.  After those VC’s fall, the Allies just make a mad dash during the second half of the game, converging on St. Lo, while the Germans rush in to reinforce.
