    • What's in the Briefcase?

In the Evolution? thread, I mentioned the movie Pulp Fiction.  What I have to ask now is:  What is in the Briefcase that Jules and Vincent are told to retrieve?

I think it is Marsellus Wallace’s soul.  That is what I was told once, and I’ve seen the movie enough times since then to gather some evidence as to why this is so.

Why would anyone hate to play Japan?  I would say they are my favorite nation to play! (Sorry for going off-topic; that just blows me away!)

Still, tc makes a good point:  Regardless of how good they are, pretty girls who play A&A are one in 500 million.

Don’t worry about that Adonai.  You’re getting an earlier start on this game than I did.  :-)

Not to cut you down, dude, but I was hoping for some pictures of a game set-up.  I am pleased, however, that my main man Otto Skorzeny is on the cover.  :-)

An element’s valence just means how many available “slots” it has with which to form covalent bonds.  So I might just say that they can’t even bond with themselves either.

How has someone “discovered” something like that?

    • Am I the Only One?

Has anyone else read a book or seen a movie that was so significant that it molded their overall outlook on life?
If you don’t quite follow me, here are some examples that did it for me:

      Books
      The Dune series
      The Silmarillion
      Memnoch the Devil

      Movies
      The Usual Suspects
      Memento
      Spawn (Animated)

Actually, I don’t have a periodic table in front of me right now, but isn’t helium one of the Noble Gases?  That would mean that it is IMPOSSIBLE for any helium-based life-forms, since the Noble Gases’ valences are so low, (zero) that they don’t ever bond with anything else.

    • RE: Does it actually matter?

Actually, two buddies of mine that I work with are Nascar fans.  They prefer Ford, and I just bought a Chevy recently.  They also prefer Pepsi, while I would take Coke.  We’re still cool with each other, but I just wanted to ask the question.  :-D

I’ve just read that hydrogen and helium are the most abundant elements in the universe.  (stars)  Stars begin by burning hydrogen via fusion, and then when all their hydrogen fuel runs out, having been fused into helium, then the stars will simply begin burning helium.  By the way, supposedly when that happens in our solar system, in about 5 billion years, then the sun will puff up dramatically, enough to engulf the Earth’s orbit.

    • Does it actually matter?

OK, now it’s time to be slightly goofy…  :-P

Do you prefer Pepsi or Coke?
      How about Ford or Chevrolet?

Does anyone else face these kinds of mundane little things that segregate people?

That last part was a joke by the way…  I don’t think any of my friends hate each other based on their soda or vehicle preferences…  :-)

    • RE: Where does E.T. come from?

      @Gen:

Uh, yeah, but that would be a totally alien species. Scientists don’t think it’s possible to have hydrogen or helium-based organisms… Just imagine–hydrogen is the lightest element and helium is not abundant enough!

The term “carbon-based” is just a reference to the fact that carbon can form long, long chains, like in DNA.  I don’t remember ever hearing that hydrogen or helium have this characteristic as well, but I do think silicon can… However, I do know that helium is certainly abundant enough.  If the Big Bang is correct, (and it is the leading theory as to the beginning of the universe) then helium makes up about 20% of the universe.  And with the sky being loaded with billions of stars, that is a huge amount!

I’ve heard about that.  What I’m talking about though, is trying to get my friends to be interested enough to play a game, but nobody is ever willing…

    • RE: Rankings

Wow, perfectly even.  I may be off on my answer, because unlike you, I don’t even get to play once a week.  I’m lucky to play once a year!  It sucks being just about the only one in your circle to like this game.

    • RE: Where does E.T. come from?

It’s just an attempt to gain some insight into the existence of aliens.  Anyone is free to introduce any secondary points, or state that they don’t believe in aliens at all.  But as I said as my opening statement, this is a continuation of my previous “Aliens?” thread, in which the main topic of discussion was whether or not they exist.

      switch:
I’m saying this more as an “IF”, because I don’t really KNOW any of this, nor can I prove anything.  Just think of it this way:  IF aliens are humanoid, with only subtle anatomical differences to ourselves, then would that not suggest something along those lines?

      Imperious:
Yes, that’s also true.  Machines with intelligence might just view their automated anatomy as superior to any organic models.  (Just like the machines in the Matrix, they might view humans and other biological life-forms as “unnecessary” and “obsolete”)
