Re: đź‘‹ Introduce or Re-Introduce Yourself (Current)

Howzit A&A bros! My name is Danie (pronounced “Danny” okay) and I’ve been playing A&A ever since my best friend’s big brother bought the Milton Bradley version back in the late 1980s. We were about twelve and it felt like a real step up from “Risk”! We also played “Fortress America” and “Gettysburg” which was in the same product line. They were great games too. Whatever happened to them?

Anyway, we’re still best friends at nearly fifty years old with wives and children but whenever he visits SA or I visit Australia (his new home), we always set aside a full day to play whatever version of A&A we feel like. My wife keeps us fed and hydrated like a good girl (haha!) and Ouma has the kinders. Our personal favourite edition is Europe 1940 but we’ll expand into the Pacific Theatre when we have more fellas. I also love A&A 1941 Anniversary Edition which I was lucky enough to have sent from Australia, my second home after South Africa as I took a gorgeous
Australian wife who speaks Afrikaans nearly as well as me now! She’ll play Risk and sometimes 1941 (excellent for getting your wife into A&A) but gets distracted by the more involved versions.
Welkom en baie dankie my A&A bruers!

@barnee Thank you very much for the kind regards! Yes, as you joked, we Afrikaners are a pretty conservative lot! I am very very fortunate to have such an amazing and beautiful wife. In fact, as it is my birthday, she has pre-ordered me A&A North Africa! Baie lekker!

@ampdrive Africa without Madagascar is like Europe without the British Isles. It’s one of the world’s largest islands and intrinsically part of Africa politically, geographically and culturally. I know that in the great scheme of things, Madagascar might not matter but it reminds me of the way Australians get quite upset when Tasmania is cut off of the bottom of the map! As a native of Africa now living in Australia, I fully concur!

In fact, these sorts of issues often on A&A maps. I understand that an A&A map cannot be cartographically correct without a LOT of empty space on the board but there are times when it becomes silly. For example, what happened to my beautiful South Africa on Europe '40?
