      @Redleg13A:

      Otherwise you might invoke a MARINE SMASH!

      I’ve never come across that term, which sounds intriguing – could you define it?

      At any rate, the topic of inter-service ribbing reminds me of the old joke about a couple who goes to see a marriage counselor.  The counselor asks, “What seems to be the problem?”  The wife answers, “My husband and I can never agree on anything.” The husband retorts, “That’s not true.”

      And based on your updated question, I would put Rommel with Patton. Too very aggressive generals greatly liked by troops, and masters of armoured warfare.

      Eisenhower had a conniption fit about the whole thing, believing it to be absurd to not use them and managed to get them to the guns by the time of the bulge. They were so devastating to the Germans, many formations were on the brink of mutiny because they were afraid to leave their dugouts and bunkers for fear of being cut down.

      I’ve observed (and adjusted) these fuzes in action in real world operations and they are simply devastating…

      The IIIJ has a 50mm L60. I would take that against the Valentine any day.
      Might need to hit it in flank, but with the extra 10MPH I would hope I could manoeuvre around it, if my first shell(unluckily) bounced off the frontal armour.
      Its puny 2 Pounder would not bother me much I suspect.

      Stug III if I get off the first shot.

      If the engagement is any longer than the first shot, give me the T-34.

      By the way love the question.

      Me too. Sorry I did not say, Aequitas.

      Guys,

      ––First, let me start out by saying “Unbroken” is NOT a war movie,….at least like you normally think of one.
      ----It IS a very powerful, inspirational movie that is extremely well done. It also has a enough WW2 action/scenes to be “interesting” to a WW2 buff. The CGI as well as the physical props were well done. I only noticed one inacuracy,…when returning to America at the end of the war there was a transport aircraft that still had the early ww2 red dot in the star and red/white rudder stripes. I guess it might have been possible but I doubt it. Anyway, it was hardly noticable (except to a historian) and didn’t detract from the movie at all. All summed up, a great movie that’s well written, acted, with great cinematography.

      ----My opinion,…If you want to see a well done INSPIRATIONAL movie set in the WW2 era, this is a GREAT ONE!

      @allweneedislove:

      i read the title and clicked on the thread.

      i assumed it was going to read as the following.

      Europe and Asia connected as they have been for the past 20,000,000 years as one land mass.

      but i guess your topic is slightly more interesting.

      I did the same thing and asked myself there are zero railways going from one part of this giant landmass to the other? What about the trans-siberian… oh they are talking about Turkey, nevermind.

      I love the Russian answer.

      -SEND IN 20,000 TROOPS-

      Why can’t the Yankee’s do this more often.

      Just wait till Russia blames the US for trying to get the meteor to hit them, for a reason to invade.

      aequitas et veritas,

      Quite profound.

      I thought this would probably be the scene(s) out of the movie “We Were Soldiers Once” where the new recruit says “nice day” to the gruff old 'Trooper played by Sam Elliot.

      Camper sits and waits… and ONLY considers Kill to Death ratio.

      RUSHER, doesn’t care how many times he dies, he wants to capture points for the team - and be at the top of the list.  He also wants pure action.

      Campers are lazy, cheap, and wait - usually looking for exploits.  Rushers are typically suicidal, brash, and verbally offensive.

      It’s all based on whats more important… Points?  or Kills?

      Two things on Mark’s comments.

      Further to Marc’s comments
      #1.  Looking at the Agrarian society farmers model.  It’s important to distinguished that in the Nomad society, the Raider/warrior is the Farmer.  Pillaging as he moves along, living off the milk of his horse, loot from the conquest, bounty of the land.

      As for Mongol Officers - Let’s review some important distinctions.  I wouldn’t necessary call Mongol officers “Staff” officers in the sense we know them - but it’s important to note that Mongol officers were not needlessly expended - but rather protected.

      The Mongol battlefield tactics were a combination of masterful training with excellent communication and discipline in the chaos of combat. They trained for virtually every possibility, so when it occurred, they could react accordingly. Unlike many of their foes, the Mongols also protected their ranking officers well. Their training and discipline allowed them to fight without the need for constant supervision or rallying, which often placed commanders in dangerous positions.

      Whenever possible, Mongol commanders found the highest ground available, from which they could make tactical decisions based on the best view of the battlefield as events unfolded. Furthermore, being on high ground allowed their forces to observe commands conveyed by flags more easily than if the ground were level. In addition, keeping the high command on high ground made them easier to defend. Unlike the European armies, which placed enormous emphasis on personal valor, and thus exposed their leaders to death from anyone bold enough to kill them, the Mongols regarded their leaders as a vital asset. A general such as Subutai, unable to ride a horse in the later part of his career due to age and obesity, would have been ridiculed out of most any European army of the time. But the Mongols recognized and respected his still-powerful military mind, who had been one of the Genghis’ most able subordinates, so he was transported around in a cart.

      “The encirclement was complete by 25 March with 6 Soviet armies (3rd Guards Tank, 4th Tank, 1st Guards, 18th, 38th and 40th Armies) applying pressure to Hube’s force. At the same time, the external encirclement, held by 13th and 60th Armies and 1st Tank Army, was designed to force the German 4. Panzerarmee and 8. Armee back and unable to attempt a rescue operation. It is at this point that 1. Panzerarmee was probably very lucky to have Generaloberst Hube in command and Field Marshal Erich von Manstein in command of Army Group South. Both men were proponents of “mobile defensive” operations which allowed a large force to attempt a break through of encircling forces while maintaining a strong backwards defensive posture from rear guard units.” (source :Stephen Bernich from a diffrent Forum)

      What would have constituted a TOTAL victory at Kamenets -Podolsk for the Soviet Army?…

      Did the Germans escape Destrustion or just evade a Russian victory?..

      Your Thoughts…

      @frimmel:

      Well, Empireman, Commander mode makes a return in BF4.

      More BF4 news and links.

      The new COD has dogs. BF4 has falling skyscrapers (near the end at about the 5:18 mark of the first vid in the second link.)

      Looks pretty cool, though no mods which was my favorite thing about BF2.
      Destruction is pretty cool. And I like China returning from BF2.
