    • RE: Game report for 1914…from Larry Harris

IL, maybe it will be a quicker game and that definitely would be cool. For most people A&A is too long and hard to get new people to devote the time. Just us super fans love the 12 hour gaming sessions. And it probably will and should historically take the US a little time to actually really hurt the CP so it will work out fine.

Vorbeck, yes I have played that and I love that idea of the blow up box. Adds so much for the western front. In this game it will be like two spaces probably that France and Germany just put men in over and over. Seems kinda boring. The blow up box allows some movement while giving it the impression of not really getting anywhere. Plus it’s awesome on that game in Triple A when you send units from the larger strategic map to the blow up box. It really gives it a thematic sense of sending men into the trenches. I will probably make house rules for this game to include that if there is a way to make it balanced. Maybe future deluxe editions could include the blow up box. We’ll see.

This seems pretty cool thus far! Does anyone else feel just 4 rounds to get to 1917 seems a little quick though? Especially since decisive battles will be few and far between with one round attacks? The CP has just 4 attacks to crush the allies before America and it’s power house economy comes over and puts the hurt on. If the game follows history the CP is done once the US shows up in numbers. They really needed to take France out before then to win, but maybe it will take the U.S. a couple rounds to really do anything. Over all I’m liking the rules, but still wish there was a blow up box for the Western front.

    • RE: Italy

Maybe the game should of just started in 1915 when all the countries are at war except the US. Get past all this and just gets to the war instead of dealing with all these countries joining the two sides. I definitely prefer a starting date of 1941 or 42 over the 40. Just get to the main part of the war. The game is long and we don’t need to play out a almost certain French defeat.

    • RE: Map Design

The original Axis and Allies Europe has the best artwork by far. At first glance from the somewhat small image of the 1914 map I wasn’t too thrilled with it, but it’s kinda hard to tell. Still very excited for it. I was hoping for a blow up box like Triple A’s Great War for the Western front. That to me was a brilliant way of simulating the trenches without just having stacks of infantry slug it out with Berlin and Paris 2 spaces away. It gives the feeling of sending the men into the most disastrous war zone ever and then actually having a chance to maneuver the troops. Attacking and counter attacking each time only making small gains just like the war. I’m hoping if this game is successful we’ll get more World War I games from the A&A line including specific battles and maybe a “deluxe” version of this game with more kinds of units and a map that focuses more on Europe. Something more on the lines of the original AAE, but slightly larger with more spaces in Europe and an expanded Middle East. Does anyone else think it was a mistake to make the map more global at the expensive of having detail in Europe? The African, Asian, and North American fronts could of easily been done in small boards that connected to the main board something I think like AA Guadalcanal.

    • LA Area Gaming Group

Just moved to LA not too long ago and hoping to find a Axis and Allies and other strategy board game group in the area that’s looking for more players. It would be great to get in a game every once in awhile.

I probably would say I like 1940 better but AA 50th is still great and I play both.

    • RE: Moving to Illinois any player?

We’d probably all have to meet up in Chicago. You from the north and me from the south. It would be cool to try to set up a place and date to get a group together sometime this year. At the moment I don’t think I could make it all the way up there.(From Charleston, IL) Maybe in the spring if my job search turns around and I actually have more money. haha Crossing my fingers for my interview tomorrow. lol

It’s always so hard to find the right people near you who are into long strategy games. haha I love playing Conquest of the Empire, Napoleon in Europe, all the A&A’s, American Civil War, and I just got Star Trek Fleet Captains(Sweet game).

    • RE: Finding Convoy Zones

That’s not a bad idea Grasshopper! AA50 does have a lot of stuff to add to AAGlobal1940! Like Italian Tanks for one thing! Always felt that the convoys are distinctive enough on the board and you are bound to miss them if you are not super thorough. AA Europe convoys were so good for the battle of the Atlantic and wish we could have that for AA Global40.
