    • RE: "The Spy"

Interesting stuff here guys. Historical Board Gaming actually just released a great little “Spy” marker for their Global War game. You could easily use them for A&A:

      http://www.historicalboardgaming.com/HBG-Spy-Marker-Acrylic-x5-_p_2210.html

The rules are pretty good too. With some minor modifications, you could easily make them work for A&A:

    • RE: New Custom Map Project

      My two cents…

The addition of Axis & Allies Europe 1999 style convoy boxes would be most welcome. I often reminisce about the mid Atlantic battles from that game. That being said, I like the G40 convoy system a lot and I wouldn’t recommend removing it. These new convoy boxes could simply act as one of the UK’s national bonuses.

My second recommendation would be splitting up Spain and Turkey a bit. On the odd occasion that the neutrals come into play, the size of those territories just don’t make sense for movement.

      Thanks for the clarification Krieghund.

Does the same go for a contested territory?

I’m looking forward to trying these rules out again.

    • RE: Larry Harris 1914 Tournament Rules ( "potential rules" using his language)

I played with these rules last week and I thought it was a lot of fun. I especially liked the political and economic collapse mechanics. Much more interesting than the traditional rules for knocking out a power, and WAY better than those Russian Revolution rules…

The Central Powers won. Italy was taken out basically right away. Russia collapsed not long after that. There was a lot of back and forth in the middle east as Germany came to the Ottomans aid as soon as Russia fell. The game ended with France collapsing on turn 12.

Despite an exciting game, I think we played incorrectly…  We found the movement rules a little vague, so we made a decision early on to play so that land units could move two spaces and only had to stop if they entered a contested territory or a territory controlled by another power. I think this really accelerated the Italian collapse and saved Ottomans, ultimately leading to a fairly decisive CP victory.

My question is, can armies only move one space if they are moving into an enemy territory? Therefore, would it be an illegal move for an Austrian army in Vienna (along with armies from Tyrolia and Trieste) to attack Venice on turn 1?

      Thanks guys!

      Thanks for posting these images.

I’m a big fan of those greatcoat infantry. Big fan.

It’s too bad that Bismarck unit didn’t turn out so great… You could use it as a damaged battleship unit??! Haha jk

    • RE: Baron M's G40HR Roster: 3-planes carrier, 6 IPCs Fighter A2D2 & Sub A3D1C7

      Hi Baron,

I know it’s been a while since you posted this, but I have been toying with the idea of increasing air-to-air combat in a way that is very similar to what you have presented here.

I think the A2 D2-3 C6 Fighter is a very interesting idea. Having them target other air units before anything else is a simple and effective way to simulate that air-to-air combat. I also like how the combat values would now be the same in SBR (makes things simple).

I also really like how you altered Tactical Bombers to be A2-4 D3 C8. The two attack bonuses really give meaning to the importance to air supremacy.

I am curious to know how these two units have worked for you.

      Thanks!

Here’s a picture of a few of the Power Grid oil barrels with some OOB Russians and an oil derrick I picked up from HBG.

    • RE: Oil Rule's

      Hi guys,

I know I’m a little late to the party with this thread,  but there is a great resource for oil barrels at you local game store you should know about. …

      POWER GRID

It has little wooden oil barrels that fit in perfectly with the Axis & Allies board and pieces (and this rule set). It’s not overly expensive, around 40ish dollars. As an added bonus, it’s a pretty decent game. It’s actually one of the few games my fiance will play…. unlike A&A, which she makes a point of leaving the house if it’s being played.

    • RE: Rammstein's Custom Vinyl Maps - The better way to play

Been wanting to do this for quite a while now. For those of you that have printed the 1940 map recently,  how much did it cost you?  I’ve been calling a few local print shops, and it’s looking like I’ll need to pull a second mortgage!!! Most quotes seem to be around the $400 range for a print out that’s around 4’x8’. Thanks guys.

    • RE: Your A&A Soundtrack

Wow,  thanks for that suggestion CWO Marc! I don’t know how that one went under my radar for so long!

For all you classical music fans, check out Gustav Holst’s “The Planets.” It’s a keeper.

10 hour playlist?  Haha, we all know A&A games last longer then that!

    • Your A&A Soundtrack

How important is music to your A&A games?

Are you like me and my group and require background music while playing?

What do you like to listen to?

Do you have any ‘hype’ songs? Big battle songs? Victory songs? Defeat songs? Do you freestyle rap your purchases?

    • RE: "Tall Paul's" A&A INFRASTRUCTURE units detailed and painted by "WARMACHINE Team"

      Tall Paul,

The monuments are pretty nifty. Well done.

You keep mentioning that the map you usually play on is 150% larger than the standard game board. I have been wanting to print off a map that size. I have a couple of questions for you about that:

Did you by chance use Ambilzi and Grasshopper’s scanned map file? (found over at this thread: http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=31554.0)

Which material did you print the map on? Vinyl? Styrene? Something else?

How is the resolution quality of the map after it has been enlarged that much?

      Thanks in advance!

I know HBG has a WWI game that uses a full world map. It is in the development phase, but still worth checking out:

Bad dice should be the only reason to take France on G2. Although,  if you failed to take out Paris like a chump,  you should probably just flip the board and start over.

    • RE: Militia

I have also toyed with them only having a defense of 1 when they are on their own but get bumped to 2 when paired with a defending infantry.

    • RE: Militia

Barney, I’m a fan of what you have presented.  I use something similar but it is primarily meant to represent “last ditch” defensive efforts and lack movement and offensive abilities. As such they only really come into play at the end of a game or when a country is on its last legs:

      MILITIA

      A:0
      D:2
      M:0
      Cost: 2

Limit: 1 militia unit per territory IPC value. Can only be mobilized in home territories with industrial complexes.

      Nice and simple :)

    • RE: Heavy (now renamed Anti-Tank) Artillery against Mechanized artillery and Tanks

I’m not confident it is good idea to create a 4IPC unit that defends on 3 (or that boosts infantry to 3). It is simply way too powerful. Why would Russia, while on the defensive, even bother with tanks or any regular OOB units for that matter? You would find very quickly that the game will spiral into something that would be completely unrecognizable. The defender would suddenly have a significant upper hand economically matching their opponents tanks at 66% the cost. Filling a perceived gap in the unit list really needs to be analysed as to whether or not the new unit will throw a wrench in the existing framework.  For this reason,  I don’t believe that a regular anti tank gun unit as you have presented it is a good idea.

If you priced it at 5, with a defensive value at 3 and an attack value at 1  and a movement of 1 with no other bonuses… I think you’d be more in business. It’s not too much cheaper than a tank, but you are still getting the same punch. Paying for that higher probability comes at a premium! I mean. … good anti tank fighters require training, support and top notch equipment!

Wow Tall Paul those facilities look great. I have neither the patience or the skill to paint so well.

I’m also happy to see I’m so not the only one that uses those risk pieces… I loathe the little cardboard makers that we get in all the newer games for industrial complexes, so I use the old fashioned plastic A&A factories for minor complexes and those risk pieces for major complexes.
