but i think i’m just gonna resign. it’s been going downhill for allies anyway, and i’m struggling to find motivation and time to continue, even with my other games, as i’ve gotten pretty addicted to TI4 now that i’ve discovered the async version (much like a&a pbf)… so i’m really into that and it’s sucking up all my gaming time tbh. i’m sure it’s just a phase and eventually i’ll scale back down how much i’m playing that and will be back to more regular a&a, but in the meantime i don’t think it’s a bad idea to take a little break.

Very interesting game. I’m guessing the reason you are conceding here is the proximity of Japanese victory. At first, I was wondering but you can’t stop Germany from taking India and I think Japan will hold Australia eventually. You also need to put down a blocker to hold Hawaii for another turn. I am wondering if you meant to attack Victoria with that transport rather than Sydney. I don’t see any realistic path to keep Japan from Sydney in the longer term and you would need to conquer it next round in any event, at least the way I see it.

@farmboy Generally agree. If you don’t hit 111 then not doing anything with the 124 sub frustrates me. Not the most important issue but I prefer to use all my units if possible. This game didn’t have the Scottish fighter or the 111 sub so I think I would surely have preferred to attack 111, normally strafe with the BB. But hey, there are other options.

Regarding the UK BB, if you are doing a Gibastion with a later attack on the Italian fleet that could be very useful I suppose. I will just note that I have never felt regret for not attacking it. If it is demoted to escort duty, I think that is significantly less useful.

Clarifying that I only pointed the carrier to 94 out when I was mulling over how bad my odds for London are in my game with AD. Your positioning in our game is excellent to prevent a SL. It is by dint of dice that allows a good player to challenge a great player like you or Adam and have a chance

@Adam514 I hear you, but I’m wary of giving a player of your skill level a 20-bid - you’d be able to make a real hash of the Axis plans. I’ll take a fighter in Scotland and an arty in Sudan. GLHF!

two quick comments. It was probably a mistake on my part to give up Egypt early. I did it for two reasons. Given the loss of German air on G1, I thought he was more likely to gamble (especially with Italian units). My standard opening is the gibraltar airbase. I realized though that if I did that (and also cleaned up the surviving German naval units in the Atlantic especially the battleship) he would have almost 50% odds on the British navy in 92 on I1. Because I also needed to keep British air in the pacific, he would also have had about 70%+ odd on Egypt I2. I knew though that the loss of that German air meant that he couldn’t take and stack Egypt. So I thought it was a safer move even though it gave Italy a little more room and a little more income early.

And you are right about the strafe at the end. I was just sloppy. I was playing more forward because I thought I could and that doing so would deny him another chance to hold Leningrad or get Moscow. I hadn’t been careful about stacking Caucasus initally. In the correction I removed Soviet fast movers from Rostov. That allowed him to can open with Italy and use a German mech to move there and block a number of my units. It turned a combat that was well above 90% to one that was around 10%. So initially I thought it was safe for me to do and I didn’t realize how the correction I made opened up this option for him. But fortunately for me the one round strafe was still likely still a safe move and it did work out.

I also want to acknowledge that as I recall, after a perfect India crush set up (that was hampered a little by J1 dice)
India was doomed even with ANZ 3 fighters that were sent immediately (and I think I managed to get the Singapore army to help out)
It was just a matter of how many Jap planes would be lost.
I could argue that the attack should have been made, I’m sure Adam went back and forth (right?)
But Adam knew he didn’t need to take the chance there because he is a greater player than me, not a lesser. A lesser would have taken the shot and with a little dice assist I would have been in real trouble (if the lesser player were actually to set up a perfect India crush like that)

In other words, I nearly lost in round 2 or 3, and I nearly lost in round 7.
And there might have been another near death like these, in fact, I think Russia was in very real danger although I stumbled on a way to slow the advance by maybe even 2 turns.

Big battles have less variance than smaller ones. And taking your ship hits on my subs would increase the odds compared to what was shown (roughly compensated by keeping a couple carriers up).

Well I also had an excess of air I was considering pulling over if I felt a VC loss was immanent, in particular the uk air in southern France which could ride those 91 carriers and fly over to queens or Sydney as needed. But I’d only do that if I felt the situation called for it of course. As again Europe side was in good shape after Rome fell.
