Question about revised carrier rules as presented in Triple A notes:

Last sentence says “Otherwise, the planes may land in any adjacent territory”.

This should include open, undamaged aircraft carriers within 1 movement point away (adjacent sea zones), too, right?

I know this is fairly nitpicky, but I can see this potentially being a problem between players in the middle of a game, thanks.

Yeah that wording was changed in later versions, you can land in any viable landing spot with your 1 movement after the battle if your original carrier/territory is no longer a viable landing spot.

@ArtofWar1947 correct, ANZAC did an unprovoked attack so US cannot wardec until Collect Income of the round (we’re currently in round 3).

I can see a good argument for US fleet to be able to stay off the coast of Queensland, but seems that it would definitely be required to vacate the SZ that only touches Solomons.

This situation has been thought about during the development of PTV. The PTV rule is the same as the G40 rule, so the US fleet must vacate any sea zone that touches a Japanese-controlled territory (in the event of an unprovoked declaration by Anzac/UK for example. It’s what makes the most sense, and the Allied player should take this into account when deciding if they want to make an unprovoked declaration of war on Japan.

Thank you. Is there an exception for SZs 21,22,32,36? These sea zones are adjacent to both American & Japanese territories. I doubt any of those would be of interest to a US player, except perhaps 32: Wake Island, Marshall Islands.

No exceptions. Also means US ships need to leave Philippines on US1.

Looks like OOB might be played differently now than 10 years ago.

In any case, just play the game you think is the best.

Vichy is activated, normandy is under USA control, southern france is not activated by axis. Now, what happens to the grey boats in sz 93 if USA captures southern france (from normandy)

      The boats disappear.

Important PSA for PTV players. It has now been 2 games that I’ve won with the additional PTV global victory condition for the Axis, and my opponents were not previously aware of this rule. This rule has existed since the first public release of the game so it isn’t a new rule, but it looks like it might have been overlooked. Here is an extract of the game notes with the global victory rule highlighted.

Does anyone else have problems with “out of memory” errors when playing PTV? None of the other flavors of A&A have this problem for me. I’m on turn 22 in a current game, and I can’t seem to play the game without getting the error. Normally, I just restart the game, but it doesn’t seem to fix anything for this long running game.

Funny thing is that it doesn’t seem to crash the game. I just get a pop-up and if I close the dialog, it seems to continue. Does anyone know what problems would occur if I just ignore it?

Yes the map is too high resolution. Closing TripleA and reopening it before loading any save is recommended.

Some moves may not register. I tried moving after getting that message and most moves would register, but then a particular move did not register on the map and not even on the move summary page, and at that point I closed and reopened to finish the move.

@simon33 Would need to divide both by the respective amount of total games played to account for player count for a proper analysis.

Looking for some clarification on carrier scrambles to defend units in land battles. I have been playing with the assumption that you can scramble from carriers to defend adjacent territory units whether that is a lone AAA, infantry, or strategic bomber.

The land scramble from Airfield specifically says defending units, which is certainly all-inclusive; however, the carrier scramble says “surface warships or land units”. I know this specifically excludes submarines and transports. Does it also exclude AAA and aircraft?

After all, “Land Units” could be interpreted by a player using the game notes to not include aircraft or AAA, since they do not qualify as garrison forces for the Chinese Guerilla rule.

Let me know, I’m sure it’s been brought up before, I’m combing the discussion threads now as well.

AA gun is a land unit. For the Chinese Guerilla rule, it mentions it requires a land unit and lists all of them except the AA gun So you can scramble to defend AA guns.

Air are also land units when viewed from the point of view of the carrier. It isn’t clear in the rules, but you can normal scramble and carrier scramble to defend only planes.

@gamerman01 Rules question - Are Axis subs allowed to enter Vichy SZ 93? And if so, Does the S. France Vichy harbor allow 3 movements to axis subs?

Any Axis ship can, and yes harbor provides movement.

@regularkid said in WW2 Path to Victory - Rules Discussion:

Land Scramble: Path to Victory is designed to be played with “can scramble to land” turned on for both Airbases and Carriers. This option, however, may only be used for battles where the defending player has at least one unit in the defending territory–i.e., a scramble cannot be used to defend an empty land territory. The TripleA engine does correctly enforce this rule. However, at present, the engine still prompts players to scramble to undefended territories if the attack is amphibious. This prompt should be ignored since the engine will ultimately not recognize such a scramble, even if it is selected.

Do factories and other facilities count as a defending unit? Currently, TripleA asks you, but the scramble does not actually happen, and I wonder if this is intended.
AFAIK I read at some point that facilities are generally also considered units.

No, factories and facilities do not count as defending units. They do prevent blitzing and they do count in the TUV number and unit count, which is what you may have read.

We don’t want to change unit values and make setup changes.

Italy can and has taken Normandy in many BM games on round 1, it doesn’t need the mech.

Marines at least make buying cruisers or BBs something to think about.

@Sovietishcat Same as vanilla, Axis need to keep the required number of VCs for 1 full round (until Italy’s next turn in your example). If the number of VCs drops below the required number, you’ll need to get back the required number and the 1 full turn starts again.
