      I

      In section 8.2 it lists blockading as an example of combat movement. 8.11 sort of contradicts this.

      I would say in order to enforce a blockade the units need to combat move, and thus couldn’t non combat.

      Please provide any feedback for some key commanders. Some of this is to add a more historical flavor to the game while adding an advantage to those that have the commander in play. This is not to discuss Commanders themselves on how they move retreat, etc, but just their deployment and abilities.

      John Vereker, 6th Viscount Gort
      Great Britain

      Deployment:
      Turn: July 1939. Commander-in-Chief of the BEF. If Germany has NOT declared war on France, deploy Vereker along with up to 2 infantry, 1 artillery and 1 light tank from London to Picardy to form the British Expeditionary Force (BEF). The BEF cannot move once in France from Picardy.
      If Germany has declared war, deploy Vereker to London.

      Special ability:
      Evacuate: Vereker may retreat as the defender from any land battle or an amphibious invasion to an adjacent land zone or sea zone by transport or Narrow Crossing. Vereker is only allowed to retreat with Infantry Class units present, including those of a nation allied with the British Commonwealth. Vereker may do this only on the first round of combat, after the attacker rolls, forfeiting all defensive rolls for the units retreating.

      General Francisco Franco
      Spain - Nationalists

      Deployment:
      Turn: July 1936, Command of the Spanish Army of Africa if playing with the Spanish Civil War Admiral expansion. If not, deploy to Spanish Morocco.

      Special ability:
      Dictator: Franco adds +2 to Nationalist Spanish recruitment die rolls. Units recruited this way must be place in the same land zone as Franco.

      I didn’t come to the conclusion that GHG was involved more in play testing and what not with V3 because of a simple reference in the rule book that doesn’t actually tell you what each person did and how much they really were involved. I came to the conclusion because of the title of the video I last linked.

      @delaja While I am neither a game designer or profess to be one, your post does not tell me anything I don’t already know. This “suggested” house rule was only meant to spark some interest in adding minor and major airbases to the game like ports, docks, and shipyards and using planes in a somewhat realistic fashion. The house rule was intended for someone like yourself, a “veteran game designer”, to perhaps add in things that ‘could work’ not theoretical things that might work. So if you want to add value to this post, please rewrite or add suggestions for the house rule for players out there that would like to see minor and major airbases in the game. I appreciate the feedback and encouragement though.

      @insanehoshi Always something I haven’t thought of in this game that pops up. I hadn’t really considered hoarding IPP to utilize the lower unit cost that first turn after war starts!

      I was going to suggest the same thing as @Noneshallpass too. You can leave a smallish screening force on the borders to prevent any deep penetrations right away. Enough to hopefully make blitzing unrealistic. It might cost you a decent amount of militia, but you can keep your more important units intact that way at least.

      @insanehoshi
      It can, but I would say that immediately is better than waiting and holding to troops in limbo. They just have to retreat to a territory where a battle is not occuring. This means they could get hit by blitzes, but I think that is reasonable. I also prefer voluntary retreat as it should be an option, not a necessity, and you should pick whether to fight with your heavy hitters, or run and possibly die without taking anything with you. As an attack, it forces you to bring more force to try and decisively beat your enemy before they can run.

      Not only is it not prohibited, it is made possible by the rules.

      The Free France NRS (v3.2) states: “Free France is a Minor Power formed on the surrender of France. It is at war with all nations France was at war with.”

      In addition, since the Axis can declare war on any nation, even Italy or Japan may attack Free France if they were not already at war with France.

      @insanehoshi said in Vichy rolls:

      @caesar-seriona

      If you read this objectively, any player with a double digit IQ knows by the wording this means that Aquitaine is there for Free French home territory. I pointed out that if the Allies get careless in this situation, Vichy can push them out making it Vichy, then if they land in the territory just north of it, Vichy can then push them out, and if the Allies land east of that, Vichy now just shielded Paris outright from the Allies forcing them to either declare war of Vichy or land in the Low Countries.

      Why is this a problem? Just DoW on Vichy.

      Furthermore, I don’t see how Vichy can even attack allied units and thus “Push them out” since Vichy can only ever attack free france. You may be referring to the " 14.4.5 Internal French Conflict Vichy Conflict" reference on their Vichy Reference Sheet. But considering that 14.4.5 does no longer exist in the rulebook, odds are this is simply out of date.

      Even then, its fairly clear that Rules as Intended (RAI) is that Vichy arnt allowed to show up it aquitaine, wave a piece of paper at the landing nations, and force them back to England; Why would anyone try to argue that this is the correct way to play the game?

      Thank you for pointing out that 14.4.5 has been removed from the rulebook. As that section contained important information, was it relocated or clarified elsewhere? How is Vichy, attacking a French territory containing Allied units, now supposed to be handled?

      @manincellv No.

      You could deny the 2 IPP that Russia receives by placing an Axis Submarine on the Arctic Convoy Line. The American player could also deny the Russians the 2 IPP just by stating it verbally. That’s one of the reasons why I always say in my videos that the Russian player needs to be a dick to win but they can’t be too much of a dick. They have to cooperate with the Allies to certain extent without helping them win. It’s a delicate balance between the players that doesn’t exist in A&A.

      But no, you can’t actually raid the Arctic Convoy Line.
