      Any part of the Missouri that gets hit is going to get serious damage, as long as Gustav’s shell is not launched at less than half of the maximumcrange.

      It’s kind of hard to ignore the Type 96, it basically was the standard issued artillery gun used during WWII.

      one clip from the Gen. Ludendorff article mentions that the desire to gobble up as much Russian territory in the treaty as possible required ~1MM of their troops to occupy it, implying that if they’d given up what they couldn’t keep anyways, the bump would have been bigger…

      @Gargantua:

      Honestly, what happened to the Hood was probably one of the luckiest shots of the war.

      If we were to relive that same historical battle 10 times, I highly doubt we would see that one shot outcome again.

      Oh, I’m sure that there are alternate universes out there where Hood was sent to the breakers in 1948, the “Hero of the Battle of the Denmark Strait”. It’s just that the one we share isn’t one of them. Let’s just say that 1941 wasn’t a good year to be sailing on Royal Navy capital ships…

      May we choose Oscar de Hutier as symbolic of the “Prussian doctrine of Auftragstaktik (‘mission-based tactics’)”

      and therefore the only one who actually intended to change the game ;)

      Mmm, where the British units present at Maginot before the outbreak of war with Germany?

      I think even then, France has a decent chance of defending the Maginot against a German attack. If it mobilizes all its forces from the globe for sure.
      I’ve been debating building nothing as France but Militia on Maginot, and exploit that huge defense bonus.

      Its the Lightning War feature that really screws things up for France sometimes, especially by forcing France to protect multiple territories in Picardy and Maginot.

      @Caesar:

      I want the opinions of the players who say they always send them west. Why do you think it’s a good idea to leave all your east open for Japan, I get it that you’re trading around 10 ICP worth of territories for 18 infantry and 2 AA guns but you are giving Japan a better position with the possibility of capturing you and/or entering China and UK from the West.

      The reason I usually retreat them is because I need them to prop up China (or Moscow).  I’ll decide around Round 3 whether I’m retreating these units to Russia (if Germany is targeting Moscow on G8) or help out China.  It’s common for the Chinese army to be forced to retreat towards Moscow.  Sometimes combining with the retreating Siberian troops is the only way to keep China alive.  Note that if Japan breaks the Mongolia pact, these Russian units could march through Mongolia into China.

      This dynamic is very different in the balanced mod where Russia can’t intervene in China.

      Good advice Wild bill. I would also say be patient. Bad dice, especially 1st rd, on a big naval battle can really skew things.

      There is an interesting report by the US Office of Naval Intelligence on the Battle of the River Plate, with quite a few photos and ship damage reports.  It can be found here, at the Combined Arms Research Library Digital Library, and downloaded for free.

      http://cgsc.contentdm.oclc.org

      As for a battle between the Admiral Scheer and a Baltimore–class cruiser, I would bet on the Baltimore-class ship, unless the Scheer got some early lucky hits on gun turrets, as the Spee did on the HMS Exeter.  The USS Salt Lake City, one of our two oldest heavy cruisers in World War 2, with an older gunfire control system than the Baltimores, was able to score hits on the IJN Nachi at ranges in excess of 21,000 yards.  The following comment from the ONI report applies to the Spee’s gunnery.

      German shooting was described as quite good, initially, but the accuracy fell off rapidly.
      (a) 11-inch opened with two 3-gun salvos, very close and on in deflection.
      (b) 5.9-inch also fired at Exeter; no definite hits determined, but many splinters came aboard.

      I never argued the move could prove a flop for the Raiders, I simply argued they won’t be leaving Vegas before 2030.

      Dang IL, might be a bit salty there about the rat thing that is often mistaken for a dog. :P

      CWO - neat comic, like Dilbert.  He’s my patron saint of technology I think.

      As for “hot or not” probably.  P-40s are seksi in their way, I mean they’re not P-51s so they’ll never be really seksi, but they’re seksi.

      Thanks for clarifying everything.

      Everything?  :)

      I do not have a P40 tattoo.  I have a tattoo of a bald eagle super imposed over the Stars and Stripes on my right shoulder.

      Also, I happen to like Catbert a lot, Dogbert is a close second.

      I can give a very short answer or a very long and drawn out one. ill stick with a short one for now since I have a wedding to go to shortly

      ok so Yes once both nations are at war with the same nation I.E. Germany. Absolutely draw out and make Germany pay for every territory with maximum casualties right.

      Once both France and England are at war I like to place two units in Marseilles because Germany needs to now take over this territory before the fall of Paris to be able to invoke Vichy. Also Picardia because France has a finite amount of income that they can use. with out spreading out your forces to thin for encirclement or lumping up all your units in only Lorraine and Paris so it becomes a Balancing act.

      On the first turn that France is at war with Germany France can not go on the offensive on land until one full turn has passed, but England can if you are able to take territory from Germany and chop down a major factory into a minor then why not make them pay for it?

      Also now that Both nations are at war with Germany England can now lend lease units or money to France and since again both nations are at war with Germany England can land units into France it self ( should of started off with that) before being at war no units from another nation can enter another nations territory because they are viewed as a " Major power but neutral " in respects to all other powers because that country isn’t at war with anyone else. so no Alliances have not yet been formed  only after A declaration of war has been made then everything previously mention can come to pass. If need be I can clean all this up if it sounds to jumbled I hope this helps. If you want after the weekend is over with ill write up a much better explanation and I will site everything from the rules and FAQ as well. But I hope this at lest helps you a little.
