The book: The Blonde Kight of Germany, a story of Erich Hartmann,  goes into detail concerning the Soviet labor camps. Six million German POW’s would never return home from Siberia. This is a largly forgotten fact.

Great point timerover51. How fast could Germany have built a navy by 1945? What size would this navy been?

    • David L. Robbins

Have any of you read any of David L. Robbins work? I’ve read War Of The Rats and The Last Citadel. Are any of his other books good reads?

The 300 u-boats that Raeder wanted to make war on England would have shocked the English into submission by 1941.

Speaking of the Battle of the Atlantic, this weekend I found my copy of Iron Coffins by Herbert Werner. I caught myself an hour later having to put it down. Great book!

Have any of you read the book The German Raider: Atlantis? It’s my all time favorite book.

I wonder what effect would the German Navy in World War 2 have if it’s size has been similar to the Kaiser’s Navy?

Lets not forget that a large part of the German Army still relied on animals for tranportation of supplies.

How could Germany support an invasion force? The Royal Navy would have made quick work of the small German Navy and all attempts to supply the invasion. The Luftwaffe would take a heavy toll on the British ships. With the proud history of the Royal Navy at risk the British Navy would committed every vessel to defending the home islands no matter what the outcome and cost.

I do not believe a German invasion could survive even in 1940-41.

Perhaps the Nationalist wanted to gain Japanese favor to help wage war on the Communist.

    • RE: Question: Eastern Front, 1943

“The universe is so vast and so ageless that the life of one man can only be justified by the measure of his sacrifice.”  - a R.A.F pilot who died in 1940

I took that quote from the book Wild At Heart. The quote really moved me.

      Obergruppenfuhrer, nice post!

I have really enjoyed this site. My wife says my obsessed. I spent all my teenage years reading everything I could concerning WWII and loved every moment. After high school for the most part, I put aside my passion for WWII.

Ten years later I have once again found my passion for WWII.

What is it about World War 2 that captures our passion?

    • RE: What Europe learned from WW2

Putin knows that Europe no longer has any backbone. To make matters worse Europe has no sense of Nationism. European countries can no longer put down riots within their own borders. Why would Putin fear the West?

Russia feels it must keep it’s influence strong in Caucasus area. The U.S will do nothing while troops are still in Iraq and Afghanistan and the threat of Iran still remains.

The facts are this the U.S is busy in the Middle East and the European are in love with themselves. Why should Russia fear Russian?

With that said, it would be cool if Georgia pulled a 1940 Finland move on the Russians.

    • RE: Question: Eastern Front, 1943

I completly agree concerning 1943. I almost chose the year 1942 to base this question on. I’m curious how the panzer units that were lost at Kursk would do, fighting a defensive war in 1943.

How would the war in the East been if the German 6th Army had broken out and joined Manstein’s relief force and Hoth’s 4th Panzer Army?
