Found out today that I will be carrying on my family name. We are having a boy in June. I’m the 4th, so I had some pressure placed on myself.

RE: Most Distinguished Medal by Countryposted in World War II History
March 1945 was the first and only time in its history that the Japanese Navy awarded special citation to an individual. Shoichi Sugita and Saburo Sakai were the two pilots awarded.
I do not know what award was given.

Better Allied Tankposted in World War II History
If you were an allied tank commander and had the choice between the T-34 and the Sherman, which would you choose?

RE: Was the Sherman Under-rated?posted in World War II History
I voted ‘Not over or under-rated’ because the Sherman’s weakness and strength have been well documented.

RE: Which would have been a better Ally to Germany?posted in World War II History
@ABWorsham:
What if Turkey joined the Axis and became another weak partner, another ‘Italy’. From my understand Turkey’s military consisted of infantry and artillery. With no tanks nor motorized infantry, Turkey would have trouble taking on the U.K and the U.S.S.R.
Good enough reason to stay neutral.
When the war began, Turkey excused itself from earlier security commitments to Great Britain by pointing out that France could no longer fulfill its treaty obligations, and that the treaty did not obligate Turkey to participate in a war involving Russia. When Germany conquered Greece and Yugoslavia, war with USSR certainly became more likely. If the Turks were tempted to join the Axis, they also had to take into account that German enemies could attack from all sides, and the German army wouldn’t be in the region forever.
Well said.

I hope this sparks some discussion about the USA’s technological, and industrial capabilities, along with her war aims.
When the poll for the T-34 was released I thought the next best tank in line for discussion was the Sherman. Great poll question!

RE: College Footballposted in General Discussion
A playoff just turns college football into the NFL where a six loss team gets to be champion over a team (that beat them already) putting up only the second undefeated regular season ever. No thanks.
In the Giant’s defense, you have to understand that they were decimated by injuries in the early part of that season and won the majority of their games as they got healthier. Also, they lost to the Pats by only 3 points. And you have to take into consideration that their pass rush wanted to pound Brady into the turf like a tent peg(and did) and it was pretty clear that the Giants learned more about the Pats in their first meeting than vice versa. Personally, I thought it was the most exciting game I saw played last year. Why wouldn’t you want to see a game like that in college football?
I know, they knocked my 13-3 Cowboys out of the playoffs!
And thats all I will speak of the Dallas Cowboys, I’m still in shock about this year. -

Wow, Paintball took a comfortable lead for weeks. Now Airsoft has pushed to even the score. Who will win?

RE: College Footballposted in General Discussion
I think the two best teams of each conference should play in a confernce championship, this would be the first round of the playoffs. Winners advance.
But the problem is not every conference has a championship game!
The game last night was great!

This time of year I’m always left wondering why College Football does not have a playoff system.

I think Spain would be more tempting of a choice had that country not been in recovery from a bloody long civil war. With a better navy than Turkey, first-class ports for U-Boats and Gibraltar for the grab Spain does look tempting.
I wonder the fighting capabilities of an average Spanish unit vs a Turkish unit.

RE: Paintball or Airsoftposted in General Discussion
Almost got into a fight playing paintball yesterday. I rushed behind a large tree to take on the last two guys on the oposing team, as my friend layed down covering fire. Only to have a guy from the other team, that was eliminated, broadcast to his surviving team that i was advancing.
I then get acused of being a hot head.
