    • China's Most Urgent Need

      Seems that UK gets dragged into a land war in China in a good many Pacific games, unless the Dutch East Indies are in play. What units do you believe does China need.

      At age ten, I got the G.I Joe, (2 1/2") action figures General mobile command vehicle. It could hold fifty men.

      @wittmann:

      Hi Worsham (and PP).
      We found we were happy without expansions. That said , we don’t play it any more.
      We can’t stop playing 7 Wonders amd have three expansions for that. It seems an upgrade of Catan, with more scope for thought amd fun.
      Hope you find the right expansion.

      We have been playing regular Catan for years.

      @ABWorsham:

      600,000 were moved East to West. This gave the Germans a 11 division advantage over Allies, and a 2000 artillery advantage.

      …and yet, they did not win…

      OPERATION Michael broke the British Fifth Army lines.  The human toll was enormous. Germany lost 40,000 men on the the first day.

      Could the Battleship Missouri survive a direct hit from the Gustav gun? I know this is random.

      We play regular Catan. We recently purchased Knights and Cities. Which should be our next purchases?

      What Japanese artillery piece do you consider the finest in WWII? You don’t hear many details of individuals type in the Pacific.

      @barney:

      I’d probably go with what happened historically, send them to the western front, but since I have until 2045 to cast my ballot, I think I’ll ponder it a while. : )

      I wanted to give folks plenty of time to discuss.

      @CWO:

      @ABWorsham:

      I was sixteen years old; it was the Christmas of 1996. I had been playing Risk and heard stories of a WWII game called Axis and Allies. I found the game at Toys-R-Us. My dad thought I was crazy paying over fifty dollars for a board game, but he did like the picture of Rommel on the front cover.

      I was Germany my first game. Five of us played. I remember attacking capturing all of Africa. My friend’s father gave up saying the game was too long for his taste.

      I wonder what your dad would have thought if he’d known that, a few years in the future, a two-part Global 1940 game costing about three times as much would come on the market, and I wonder what your friend’s dad would have thought if he’d known that this Global 1940 game would take about three times as long to play.

      He would just shake his head in disbelief. Dad is very cheap.

      I have wondered what would happen had the British and French used the battle plans for PLAN R-4. This plan called for the Allies to take Narvik and move east into Sweden.

      Would Norway and Sweden joined Germany? How would the U.S react to the Allies attacking neutral countries?

    • RE: How japan could win WW2

      @Karl7:

      Interesting article.  The last point was a total understatement. Japan had, next to Germany, the most powerful submarine fleet in the world in 1941.

      They squandered it when they could have sent it on long range convoy-interdiction missions.  You think the Allies had a hard time closing the air gap in the Atlantic?  Just imagine trying to do the same in the immense expanse of the Pacific.

      Total Japan fail.

      Japan did misuse the submarine fleet. The sub is suited for hunting supply ships. I’ve wondered how much longer the Pacific War would have dragged out had the Japanese underwater fleet focused on the shipping lanes around Australia and the Indian Ocean.
