@thrasher1 If I remember correctly the 2nd Edition Axis and Allies cost me around 60.00-70.00 dollars. At age 16 that was a lot of Christmas cash.

@The-Pripet-Martian said in What are you reading:

@ABWorsham4 The more I read, the more I learn that American neutrality pre-Pearl Harbor was extremely nuanced, to say the least. Very interesting stuff.

No doubt, escorts were taking an active role in the Battle of the Atlantic. American made jeeps, trucks, tanks and planes were operating in North Africa, firing munitions fabricated in the States.

    • RE: Favorite Christmas Gift

@general-kromwell I have a Christmas like that. My mother had became single and been disabled. We had a tree and no gifts underneath. I went to bed hoping that Santa would come.

In the morning I had two ninja turtle action figures. I was so excited, I had been preparing myself for no Christmas.

Years later my mother told me the story, of how that came to be.

@ABWorsham4 I’m currently reading George Marshall, Defender of the Republic.

I finished Hitler’s Secret Pirate Fleet by James Duffy. Also I read a 1955 classic, The Secret Raiders by David Woodward. These two books finished my quest for knowledge of German Commerce Raiders.

    • RE: What if...

@SuperbattleshipYamato Leningrad would have been a tough nut to crack. A large city, of significant cultural importance, with a some water ways to help in its defense. The Germans could capture Leningrad, but only by making it a top priority and forgetting Moscow in 1941.
Germany would have to have German Infantry attack from Finland to finish Leningrad.

As many tanks as the Red Army had in the Ukraine. I doubt the Germans could move large panzer armies away from this threat. Prussian ran HQ would not leave that huge force on an under strength flank, and that was the right choice.

    • New Netflix WW2 documentary

World War Two: From the Frontline

This documentary is trash. Example: Poland, Germany invades, no mention of the Red Army invading from the East.

This documentary makes the B.E.F out driving Bren gun Carriers as main battle tanks.

      This is high definition rubbish.

      Hurricane

      Me-109

      Me-110

      Defiant

      Fiat G.50 Freccia

    • RE: Canada as the 7th ally

@Caesar-Seriona We play a homemade version of A&A that has Canada as it’s own nation, allied with Great Britain. The British Far East and ANZAC are Independent. The Communist in China are also represented. It’s a fun game.

The game also rolls for French territory and Navy units after the fall of Paris. With a D-20 dice, 1-4 goes to Allies, 16 -20 goes Germans, 4-10 is scuttled, 10-16 goes to Vichy France.

@ABWorsham4 I’m currently reading H.W Schmidt’s With Rommel In The Desert.

It’s a great read. Its interesting to see the war in the desert from a staff officer and company commander’s view.

    • World War Two plastic models

Do any of you build plastic war models? I’m picking up the hobby.

I’m trying to get my paint knowledge better. I painted an Oscar (Ki-43 Japanese Army Fighter) that ended up looking like a FW-190. I was disappointed.

    • RE: What are you reading

@The-Pripet-Martian I have read two books concerning Atlantis, The German Raider Atlantis and Ship 16. I’ll look for this book.

False Flags doesn’t cover Atlantis much. It covers the lesser known raiders and supply ships.

I didn’t realize the US Navy actively hunted for the raider Komet. The raider entered the Pan American Zone in the Pacific near the Galapagos Islands sinking 3 Allied vessels.

    • RE: What would an Axis and Allies movie look like?

What if the movie played like the Jumanji movie, where a player makes moves and then there is live action scene played out.

      OR

Have the actual events of World War Two have been the results of an Axis and Allies game.

    • RE: What if japan invaded the Soviet Union (alternative history scenario)?

I recently read a book on the Battles of Khalkhin Gol. This fact left me in deep thought about this question: before the battle of Khalkhin Gol, the IJA brought as much artillery rounds they could find in China and Korea, the IJA had 100,000 rounds for the operation. Meanwhile the Soviet Army had 100,000 rounds each day of the fight.
