      Hi, all!

Thanks to BigDog for great thinking outside of the box.

I had what was propably the best game so far yesterday. I wanted to apply this strategy, and did so with the US. Unfortunately, my co-player (UK & Russia) wanted to go a little more extreme into India, buying a factory and later 2 Battleships and 1Carrier. Ferrying the 2Fighters from London via Moscow to land on the Carrier. The Japanese player did not se this coming… He did manage the usual and occupy the entire Pacific, but being too spread out caught between the UK and US fleet he had  to retreat towards the mainland for naval reinforcements. Japan did not contribute towards capturing Moscow. The UK fleet was destroyed, with India being captured. But this allowed the US to retake all of the Islands and capture all Jap islands as well. Japan mainland was taken, and the fleet utterly destroyed when racing back to liberate Japan. The best naval battle ever!!
Unfortunately this led to Italy and Germany sharing Africa and the Russian territories after Italy had an income of 44 on its peak (34+2 nat obj) and Germany scoring around 60 - objectives included.
This led to a combined effort on London, I believe we held out 4 assaults before Germany finally succeded in occupying London.

So in retrospect i believe that this was a bit too much of an “all out” in the Pacific. Containing Japan led to Italy reaching new heights, and I believe that it is much better for the Allies to secure Africa and contain Italy. Also leaving a strong fleet in the Atlantic to be able to support Russia if need be. Either directly on Russian soil, or maintaining a possibillity to invade France/Italy. The US was not able to liberate Australia, Borneo and East Indies before Africa was totally occupied, leaving UK with a few rounds of very little income. Holding Africa with the intent of liberating India later on seems to me like a stronger option.

Finding the right moment to strike at Japan still eludes me, and I am very much looking forward to the next game where I will certainly try something else than a KGF.

      @Upside-down_Turtle:

Turn 1 buy for Germany: 1 carrier, 1 transport, 2 tanks, and 2 infantry.  Gives Germany a mobile amphibious attack force that dominates the Baltic.

I agree - that is a good buy.  I usually play with tech, so buy at least 1 less tank than that - a first round tech can be devastating!

So anyway, I just prefer playing with the Dardanelles closed (and with escorts/interceptors - side note) because it was closed in history.  Wasn’t that the reason for the optional rule?

I also prefer it because I think it’s ridiculous that the Italians could possibly heavily bombard Caucasus from the Black Sea.  I still can’t figure out why the Italians start with 2 cruisers and a battleship, when in past A&A games there was just a battleship and transport off Italy.  But anyway, I digress.  I try to stick to the rules, and a closed Dard is an official optional rule, so I play with it closed unless my opponent insists…

This game illustrates the strategy in use
      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=13779.0

Basic overview. Japan goes for 40 IPCs 4 VPs turn 1. After turn 1 units from Japan are shuttled to French Indo-China and then from there to Australia. At the same time Japan starts Strategic Bombing India.  Japan will most likely not be able to actually capture Australia. It does not need to. All Japan has to do is tie up the Allies down in and around Australia for a few turns drawing 4 or 3 Victory Points a turn. Once the Allies get a large enough force built up in Australia it is time to retreat the ground forces back to French Indo-China and start using ships to delay the Allies. Even if Japan is sub-stalled this is not the end of the world. The Allies still have a very sizable force of Japanese units to have to deal with in Australia. Also Japans ships from further in the rear can be used for the delaying duties of other islands.

Whatever it was cleared itself up.

Jen I know all that stuff. I have been messing with computers since the early '80s.

I don’t mind the adds at all TG Moses. As a former web site operator I understand there necessity. However sometimes it seem as if there is a troublesome one in the bunch.

My suspicion was that is was my ISP as Charter Cable is notoriously laggy at times.

I’ve caught up some on life and games and I’m looking to try my hand at Pacific on the forum. I’ve got the game at home, but I’ve only played through it a couple of times. I’m mainly looking for a chance to work through the mechanics and understand the differences between Pacific and AA50, so don’t expect a high level of play. I’m usually good for 1 turn per day most days, but not all.

      Any takers?

Great idea this worked out very well Germany only took a couple places in Africa and Kerouac and east Poland at this point I put an IC down in France and Europe became very hard nut to crack and then japan did it’s thing the America went KGF so japan did what ever it wanted and took India Australia and Hawaii by this point Italy had Stalingrad so it was over only place allies landed in Europe was Norway but I pushed them back into the sea didn’t hurt that Germany had 10 figs and 6 bombers most of the later rounds I will keep playing a consertive Germany tilli see it fail

      Oh, I didn’t realize that.

Thanks for the link. I’ll talk to my buddies about adopting those rules for our next game.

That would make a nice NA under ANZAC.

Perhaps the American player can place one infantry in those territories from new units, rather than convert British to American. I am sure the British had troops in this area and would seem your fixing one problem, but creating another under your idea. I think ANZAC should be additional forces, but placement staggered one INF per turn from builds.

      Imperious LeaderI

When i was about 18 i went to Tahoe/Reno area and was thinking to myself “this road is rather narrow and winding and id hate to be caught in the rain out here…” About 30 seconds latter it started to rain. Then my next thought was  “ah this road is going to be slippery not to mention its got lots of turns…” I then decided not to test fate further and slowed down to like 25 miles an hour and after about a minute of driving uber slow the car lost total control and rolled off a cliff that was about 20 feet down on a slow draping and soft slope. I could not believe my luck.

Of course i called a cop and when he should up 15 minutes latter all he did was give me a ticket ( for unsafe driving) and leave after i told him i was ok. my 84 Z-28 Camaro was wasted.

The thing was i really was thinking i had better drive safe and deliberately going at a snails space when the car lost it.

      it was weird.

      Mr GhoulM

You could use the back ground music from “Pearl Harbour” for the Japanese. (I know the movie is weak)

You know what I mean? Everytime a scene from the moive cuts to the Japs this awesome drum beat kicks in. The best part of that movie is the scene that has a far away shot of Hawaii then a one Zero flies into frame and then another and another until the whole sky is filled with Jap Zeros and that deep, epic, drumming is going on……tight. I get goose bumps watching it.

Now that I’m thinking about it, in addition to the drumming there is some flutie type piping going on. It sounds very “far easty”

      ?

You would still have the BOM available for naval combat, that would remain unchanged.  You just get rid of the 600 pound gorilla of how to make Heavy Bombers not unbalance the naval campaigns while still allowing the Allies to use a CBO offensive against Germany.
