    • RE: Russian Fighters

Only the German  TRN and BB was original and I was more than happy to stop bombardment and troop delivery from Italy. Since Russia starts with 2 fighters by your logic I only lost a dollar. I don’t count the its there so it don’t cost argument. Yes you don’t buy those units at the start but if you want them once they are gone they have to be purchased.

Bottom line for me I think having a minimum of 6 fighters with Russia is the way to get the most bang for the buck.

    • RE: Russian Fighters

To demonstrate the flexibility of buying 1 fighter every round with Russia I took a few notes on their kills from my last F-T-F game. Keep in mind this is in addition to the normal trade moves with Germany.

Destroyed: 1 German BB, 1 German Transport, 2 German subs, 2 Japanese transports.

Losses: 3 Fighters (all to transports btw)

Thats 64 IPCs of hardware for 30 spent. Also the Russian airforce twice defended an American IC in Sinkiang. Rather hard to do all that with tanks or infantry.

I have played with and against the 2 CV Germain strat, it can lead to some interesting options for Germany especially if you use AC heavily.

I accept your challenge Jen. I haven’t played yet on the forums but I think I have what is needed. Again I think the proposed Axis strat will leave the Axis in worse shape than the Allies.

Due to the currrent NAs my F-T-F partner has I have faced a CV and SS purchase SZ 5 the last 4 games. On average UK gets 2 hits and looses its fighters and withdraws. I never said what UKs purchases were, it might have been 2 replacement fighters. Doubtfull I would toss the Russian AF at the remnants but I just might.

The Germans also most likely lost the med sub taking out the UK battle ship. Sure the Germans can take out the Allied SZ 12 fleet, but at a cost of probaly a fighter or two. The US AF will be taking down the BB. Also all those fighters that just went after the allied navy did not head towards Russia.

I really think not attacking Egypt G1 is horrible.

British BB and TRN SZ 12. US TRNs and DST SZ 12. No fleet unification G2. The Russian AF might even decide to clean up what the Brits didn’t get with their AF in SZ 5 on R2.

    • RE: Russian Fighters

R1 Purchase 1 FGT, 2 ARM, 1 ART. Attack Bellorus with 3 INF 2 FGT. Attack W.Russia with 2 Archangel INF, Moscow INF, Both ART, and Moscow and Karelia ARM. Caucasus troops stay put and fighters land there. If necessary transfer some INF from Caucasus to W. Russia for defense. The 2 INF that can step forward into the Caucasus where placement is made. This gives Russia 28 IPCs for R2 and should be enough defense to keep Germany at bay or make things VERY costly.

R2 Purchase 1 FGT 6 INF. From this point on I start to harass Germany by taking what I can with INF and FGT. I continue to purchase 1 FGT and INF until R4 and maintain trading territories with Germany with Infantry only. At 6 fighters this gives 2 fighters per territory of the 3 normally in dispute. From this point more ARM can begin to be purchased although generally around this time I have already started a drive toward Berlin.

Russia begins the game with a fair amount of hardware and a ton of infantry. Russia CANNOT afford to trade hardware with Germany. I do not place Russian tanks on the frontline unless I am sure they will not be destroyed which is generally a drive to Berlin. The purpose of this drive is not to take Berlin but kill Germans. Russia is quite happy with no troops between Moscow and Berlin and Germany is not. Russia does not have to take Germany, just hold out until help arrives for the kill. Germany on the other hand basically HAS to take Moscow and before help can arrive.

    • RE: A "Sink"ing feeling with an IC in place

I will only do a US IC in Sinkiang if the British also have an IC in Idida. I have found that one will not survive without the other.

In the game described Germany should have been after Russia hard whether they could hold the territory or not just to put a squeeze on Russia. Russia cannot afford to fight on two fronts in most games as they tend to have to produce infantry heavy armies and this limits there response flexibility. The transports vs ICs has already been covered. With the Russians reinforcing the Americans this provides strong defense but weak offense. Meaning you can leave some speed bumps in China and drive hard for India. From India Africa becomes an option for Japan if not Axis held to build income.

    • RE: Alternate Turn 1 buys…

In my current game my Russian R1 purchase was 1Bomber, 1 Armor, 1 Infantry, save 1 dollar. As we have yet to complete the first round I don’t know how well it will work. I prefer to use air assets with Russia anyway as they land behind the lines and do not become ireplacable casualties like armor.

As far as a Russian AC I have used that before although not on round one. It was an intentional throw away purchase to get the Germans to use their air assets to attack fighters deffending at 4. While I lost a fleet I had no real use for the Germans lost most of their luftwaffe which was my goal.
