    • RE: Russia's fight against Japan

      If you are feeling very bold stack the 6 infantry in the east in Bury and send the 2 Moscow tanks to Yakut. This will require Allied assistance but it gives Russia the option of attacking Manchuria on round 2.

      As has been stated above the eastern territories are only worth 1 IPC and 3 together add up to 1 Infantry per turn. Also trying to hold or fight over these territories will end up getting the Soviet air force out of position to attack German targets not a good thing.

      Pervavita your description of boot camp is about what Infantry school was like. One of the pleasures was walking 5 or so miles to classes and that did not even count for all the mandatory road marches.  You are still off base on the WWII PTO Nimitz had ground units under his control in his area. MacArthur was in command in the south west pacific more or less where Japan’s money Islands are at in the game.

      Switch is probably a year or two older than me but I remember Nixon resigning and all that. My Avatar pic is from '87 as well and obviously the Army already had BDUs except for Rangers and Special Forces that wore the Vietnam era OD 107 slant pockets. As far as rip stop goes it seems the stuff always ripped along the reinforcement threads. We used to call them “rip starts”. The above mentioned 107s did not rip as easy and seemed a bit thinner. The Marine digital doesn’t look that bad to me but the Army stuff sticks out like a sore thumb in a temperate environment.

      Obama’s stance on the 2nd Amendment will not get him very far in the south.

    • RE: Marines vs Soldiers

      Again I was referencing the Marines of the 2nd World War which were the only US forces to wear camouflage (HBT reversible) which the current USMC uniforms harken back to somewhat. They are much better looking than the new Army digital  barf.  I also really have to give a thumbs up to the Corps on the way they went about designing the new uniforms by letting the troops comment and suggest changes. As far as dress uniforms that is a no-contest with Army Dress Blues being a close second but those are optional for special occasions anyway.

      I would also suspect Marine boot is longer than Army basic due to the fact that every Marine is first a rifleman which would put it more in line with Infantry school than straight basic anyway, but one of the Marines here would have to comment on that aspect.

      Just to clarify for Pervavita Gen MacAuthur was not in overall command in the PTO he was in charge of the Southwest Pacific Area. Admiral Nimitz was in charge of the rest of the Pacific. Both reported to the Joint Chiefs. And also for what it is worth there were amphibious operations carried out in the PTO that were all US Army.

      I get your point Jen but that unfortunately is trying to take todays perspective back to 1940 whatever. Private Joe Shmoe fresh from some Kansas farm is not coming off an assault craft any better strictly because he is wearing the spiffy USMC cammies. Keep in mind that the USMC was very small at the start of the war and like the Army units had to be trained in amphibious operations at best some of their units did have seasoned cadre but many were formed from scratch in the states.

      But they did do them back then. The Marines did not land in North Africa. The Marines did not land in Italy. And lastly the Marines did not land at Normandy. Now before our Marines on site get all stirred up I just want to say I am pointing out what used to be known as a historical fact. Plain and simple it took everybody we could muster to get the job done.

      Interesting page with some pertinent data. http://www.historyshots.com/usarmy/backstory.cfm

    • RE: Marines vs Soldiers

      The US ARMY did have combat units in the PTO in WWII. There simply were not enough Marines to get the job done. However to keep recruitment numbers up it was decided that the Marines would get the press from the PTO and the Army from the ETO. If I recall correctly there were something like 36 Marines that did actually serve in the ETO mostly in advisorial roles for amphibious landings.

    • RE: Black Hawk Down

      Very close to the book which was well researched BTW. The only real difference is in the movie some characters are composits and it can get a touch more confussing about who is who when cutting back and forth between the groups.  M36 stop and consider the predicament a lot of these guys were in, cut off in an unfamiliar and unfriendly urban environment; not carrying their normal equipment; low on ammo; and for some out of communication.

      And I like service calls even less than you like plumbers. As a mater of fact if it isn’t new commercial or industrial construction in any trade I start losing interest real fast. And if they are not cleaning up after themselves I would be seeking another company, that is part of the job, repairing walls not so much.

    • RE: Sub Question

      If Leningrad is not combat then no. From the LHTR.

      At the beginning of the combat move phase you may already have sea units in spaces containing enemy units that were there at the start of your turn.

      This situation will require you do one of the following:

      • Remain in the sea zone and conduct combat;
      • Leave the sea zone, load units if desired, and conduct combat elsewhere;
      • Leave the sea zone to load units and return to the same sea zone to conduct combat;
        *Or, simply leave the sea zone and conduct no combat other than sailing out of harms way.

      Once these sea units have moved and/or participated in combat they may not move or participate in the noncombat phase of the turn. You may not load units while in the original contested sea zone.

    • RE: Profession

      Plumber currently while trying to start a career in fiction writing. The body is just no longer fit for the joys of construction work. I also have been a journeyman in several other trades sheet metal, heavy equipment, and painting. Honestly when it comes to construction I have more or less worked in all the trades at one point or another. Also I was an Infantry man along long time ago.

      Marines = the first 100 yards
      US Army Infantry = the next 100 miles  :-D

      Cargo in this case refers to allied fighters on an attacking carrier. With the situation in question Any fighters would retreat 1 space to a safe landing zone or be destroyed.

      Just from what I have been following I would think it is safe to say that you live in the north Jen. Switch is spot on that Romney has zero chance here in the south. 1 he is a mormon which is viewed as more or less a satanic cult in this neck of the woods. 2 his record on gun control is abysmal. 2 is a major major issue in elections down this way. Also a plus for McCain is he is a veteran which is a big plus here. Like Switch has said people down this way have very long memories.

    • RE: The UK and Industrial Centers

      In my experience with Colonial Garrison India is the best location but requires a US IC in Sinkiang. Not that this is a bad thing. Australia seems to just keep japan from waltzing into Australia but that only saves England from loosing 3 IPCs. South Africa is just too far away from the action to be of much use.

      Non Colonial Garrison Egypt can be quite nasty for the Axis a few rounds into the game if the conditions are favorable for such. And trading it back and forth with Germany can even work to your advantage.

    • RE: Presidential Election (as a current event- watch the tone or it's gone)

      Reagan was elected mostly on the hostage crisis as I recall. Yes the economy was in bad shape under Carter but in a different way from what will be happening by fall of next year. What has passed so far is just the tip of the iceberg and has been along time coming for various reasons. I would not be surprised if we went into a full scale depression.

      Also consider that the average American is nowhere near as politically savvy as posters on a site such as this so the approval ratings for congress I think will not matter. I have noticed that the Dems are playing it very safe this time around after '04 and that the Republicans are acting like the Dems who figured anybody could be beat Bush. Ie. all your arguments and it will be a cake walk slam for the Republicans.

      I agree with switch’s assement. I also think the Democratic canidate will win this election. Look at what happened with the Democrats in '04 after trying to appeal to the more fringe elements of the party none of the Democratic canidates were electabile to mainstream America. I think the Republicans will end up doing the same this year. I also think that Reaganomics regurgitated is not going to sell very well by the time of the national elections when the country is in a reccession.

    • RE: Standard Russian opening

      I am not used to using bids since that was eliminated in the out of the box rules so Russia has become rather rote for me. 2 tanks 1 fighter and an artillery and attack Bello and West Russia. I doubt my attacks would really change due to a bid in Ukraine and I am almost certain my purchases would not as I feel Russia needs the additional hardware while it is easy to aquire and the existing infantry can be used.

    • RE: Making Bombers viable

      Let me say that in this case I think Bean is right. Before we started using the LHTR HBs were what cleaned up the IJN. Now in these cases it was never a from the start strategy. Someone would build up some bombers and get heavies. At that time they would simply send in whatever fleet they had and the heavies. Since this occurred latter in games generally there was a base to hit the IJN with or it was out at sea after the Americans. And also in some games long range was also added in.

      All that aside does everyone still think with nerfed heavies that going back to each bomber being capped by the territory as opposed to all is such a deal breaker? Or say each bomber is capped by the territory limit with a limit on bombers that can be employed per attack. Again my thoughts are a way to make SBRs more palpatible against placed ICs that are in lower limit TTs.
