    • RE: Mongolia and Neutrals - rules summarized here

Big thx again Gamerman for all the help. You know I haven’t been playing for 30 years and have only played global 3 times. Before global I have not played one game that continued (maybe 1 round max) after a capital has been captured, so you see there is still a lot of new stuff for me. Sometimes its the way I misread something but what is the best for me is the scenarios & examples, like the way you described them. That clearly explains a lot and makes things super clear so again thx for the effort.

I have reread your post about the Anzac and think I have finally got it. You did specify about the USA there so I apologize for that.

I will phrase what I think is correct and you can correct me if Im wrong…please :D

“The UK & ANZAC are the ONLY 2 countries that can take control (collecting IPC value) of Dutch territories before they have been controlled by the Axis. Otherwise, if a Dutch territory is in control of an Axis power, it must be attacked by the UK/ANZAC/USA(at war) to be controlled(collecting IPC value)”

If what I wrote is correct then I believe it is whats written on the top left of page 9 of the Pacific Rulebook that confused the crap out of me:
‘As a result, they are free to move units into these territories as a noncombat movement at any time, as long as they have not yet been captured by Japan.’
I know that at the end of that paragraph it does say ‘Once a Dutch territory has been captured by Japan, however, it may be captured and controlled by any power.’
But the part that says ‘as long as they have not yet been captured by Japan’ should have been followed up with more explanation and some scenarios :-P or just not there at all cause otherwise isnt it obvious

    • RE: Mongolia and Neutrals - rules summarized here

Thanks for posting this info Gamerman. Just have a few more questions to be certain.

      1)Mongolian question:
I have read in the forums that if Germany attacks a territory bordering Mongolia and Japan reinforces the territory it won’t activate neutral Mongolia. Does the same apply for the allies, meaning if USA attacks Korea and Russians back them up, does that end the Mongolian pac?
Similarly if Britain places troops in Yunnan to back it up and Japan attacks it then Japan is declaring war on Britain correct?

      2)Anzac and Dutch territories:
I still have a lot of trouble with this one…
Like Anzac, can Britain or a USA (at war) control a Dutch territory and gain the IPC value?
IF Japan controls these Dutch territories, Anzac, Britain and the USA can attack these territories correct? If Anzac can’t collect the IPC value after that point can Britain or the USA collect it?

      3)Extra AAA question:
Lets say you attack a territory with a transport and 2 infantry and there are no enemy units in it, can you then in non combat, on a different transport, bring a AAA gun in the territory?
What would be the procedure of the AAA on transport during combat? You load it up on a transport on one turn, then on the next turn you can load your infantry and attack. It clearly doesn’t fire at any possible enemy air planes that might be on the territory so does it get used as a casualty? If it was the last unit alive, could it capture the territory?

      1. Extra China question:
When the rulebook says that China can even control kwangtung and Burma if they take it from the axis & India is under axis power, does that mean that China will get kwangtung and Burmas IPC values?
When the allies are liberating French territories from the axis they do not collect the IPC value of those territories correct?

      Thanks in advance  :-)

Hey guys got another question about Rockets.

Can you fire rockets and then move the AA gun in non-combat?

      Thanks  :-)

    • RE: NO question

I also had a question about the convoy disruption on page 24 of the rulebook. At the bottom right it says that Italy could loose up to 2 IPC’s from the british sub. Is this a typo? Shouldn’t the answer be 6 because the sub can roll 2 die and get 2 3’s? And in that picture the max # of IPC damage would be 7 being that there are more than just one british sub and that Greece isnt in Italy’s control.

Can anyone clarify this for me please. Thx

    • NO question

For some reason my friends and I are confused about this NO and similar ones like it:

2IPCs per territory if Italy controls Iraq, Persia, and/or Northwest Persia. Theme: Access to strategic oil reserves

To me this means that if for example Italy controls only Iraq it will get 2IPC’s. Is this correct?

      Thx in advance

The air units I know but I am in shock about the land units and clearly from what I wrote I am still an amateur

I mean thats a huge misunderstood rule for me and my buddies and I wonder how a lot of our games “might” have gone LOL

    • RE: AA50 Rules Errata and Q+A

I have thought of playing against myself but how can you go forward knowing your enemies strategy  :-P

About 1941 My buddy bought an industrial complex first round in India and second round bought AC and Battleship. Plus the US went full out pacific. We didnt play long enough to see Germany explode but I could clearly see that Japan wasn’t going anywhere. This was my reason behind questioning the axis advantage. I will just play some games and get back to ya on it

I can definately try and figure out how to get a battlemap or u can just tell me how  :-P.
I also heard of this die counting system which its based on calculations rather than rolling. How does that work? (sry again for extreme noobyism )

      combat & non-combat movement questions
Unless I am a complete amateur I am pretty sure u cannot, in non combat move units into a territory that u just took over(except AA gun). So my question comes in two parts:

      1. Lets say u blitz with a tank into 2 empty enemy territories. Can your infantry move into the first territory in non combat or must he have moved forward with the tank in combat?
2)Lets say you have several ships in a sz. U would like to attack the island in the adjacent sz which contains NO ENEMY BOATS! U proceed to move your transport along with the other ships (no bombardments). If you moved all your ships into that sz is that considered a combat move? Is it then fair to say that it was your error an they should have been moved in non combat or is that clearly non combat and bad habits???

      Retreating
lets say u do an amphibious assault along with planes and additional land units from an adjacent territory. After the first round of combat even though you have both sea and land units, you decide to retreat. what is the procedure here??

    • RE: AA50 Rules Errata and Q+A

      Thanks Gamerman  :-)

I am really surprised with the bidding but I will have to take your word for it. I have only been playing 42 set up without NO and I just recently tried 41 without NO and it wasnt even normal lol. I did read in the forums though, and from this last experience, that you cannot play 41 without the NO’s. Even with the NO I am surprised that the axis are that heavily favoured. I think the axis player has to be a really good one and the allies a really bad player as well for that to be true. However I have not played enough to know so I presume these bids will come into play after a few games ;)

I would like your opinions on the latest 1942 revised game. Is it worth buying when you already own AA50 and are NOT a collector? The map looks interesting and it looks to be like a quicker game but could you really find yourself playing both AA1942 and AA50? I can see that for the axis it might be easier to be able to place units where Italy should be but not having Italy(even with minimal gameplay) its still a long & rough wait for the 1-2 punch of the allies. Thoughts pls  :?

      I think I still have revised :-o

      More questions

      1. Land units attacking from an amphibious assault cannot retreat correct?

      2. All warships entering an enemy seazone must participate in the attack together and cannot do other objectives correct? (such as a bombardment)

      3. During non combat, can you move an AA gun into a newly controlled territory that you captured in the same round?

      4. For the paratrooper breakthrough, is the bomber restricted to attack only the territory it is dropping the infantry in? Or can it drop the infantry into the first hostile territory it goes over and continue to attack another territory?

    • RE: U.S.A. strategy in the pacific

      @axis_roll:

Part of the problem with the 1942 scenario is how strong Germany is.  She can grow quickly due to her large income base.  The needs of the European Theatre will dictate what USA can do in the Pacific.  As in the real war, Europe was the main target initially.

Yes I agree, most of my games I cannot ignore Europe as the US because Germany gets very powerful. However most of the time if I do go pacific I am always looking to sink Japanese fleets which just seems overwhelming but I will try your advice and position groups together near the islands and work on defence.

      Appreciate the input guys.  :-)

    • RE: AA50 Rules Errata and Q+A

Wow guys thats huge. Feel like such a noob

So when a plane is 'disengaging" from an attack it can land anywhere it wants (friendly territory or AC of course) according to how many moves it has left?

Now lets say in Europe where Germany is attacking a territory with its 5 planes, when it is time for non combat, it is a matter of remembering where your planes came from to know how many moves each one has left correct?
I believe, if my memory serves me well, that in the revised edition they had markers available to either indicate how many moves it took for that plane to get to the attacked territory or to indicate how many moves that plane had left. This seems handy in this case where you have many planes attacking a single territory but otherwise its all memory I guess right?

    • RE: AA50 Rules Errata and Q+A

I do have the rule book but I am really enjoying clarifying things because sometimes the scenarios are so different and the rules can be a little confusing although most are pretty straight forward.

-When you are declaring your attack with a plane you must declare where it will land correct? And even if it is retreating it must continue that path correct?
-If the destination path was on an AC that has been sunk in battle and the fighter still has a move left, that’s when it can retreat to an adjacent territory correct? -What if it had 2 moves left, can it retreat 2 moves away or still one friendly adjacent territory?

In your example above the/an AC is the only ship that can enter Z53 in non combat correct? (basically the only ship that can enter a seazone after there was an attack made in that sea zone)

Sorry if it sounds like Im repeating myself or what u said. I just like to be 100%
      thx again

    • RE: AA50 Rules Errata and Q+A

      Amazing thx Gamerman!!

Okay here’s a couple more AC question:

      a) A fighter can attack a seazone on its 4th move and land in that seazone on a friendly AC correct? (presuming it won the battle of course)
      b) What if both fighter and AC want to retreat? Can they both move back into an adjacent seazone? And does that seazone have to be where they came from like on land?

Lets say a japanese fighter is defending with its AC in Z12 and in the battle it loses its AC. Can it then land in Algeria if it is controlled by the Axis?

      Land retreating questions
      a) Lets say german forces attack russian forces in east poland from western poland and baltic states. If germany wants to retreat do they have to move all together into either west poland or baltic states.
      b) Lets go with the same scenario but germany is only attacking from baltic states and control west poland. Can they retreat to west poland?

      SUB QUESTIONS

1)Can a sub move freely through a sea zone consisting of only an enemy sub, and ignore it the same way other ships can?

a)If you have a sub on sub only battle do both sides get to fire?
b)Consider there is no destroyer present for the attacker can the defending sub just choose to submerge instead of being attacked?
c)Consider the defending sub has no friendly destroyer can the attacking sub choose to submerge or retreat into an adjacent territory after it chose to attack?

a)If a sub and a destroyer are attacking a sea zone with only an enemy sub does the attacking sub get a surprise attack where the defending sun cannot fire back if it is hit?
b)What if it the reverse and the sub only is attacking a sea zone with a sub and destroyer, what is the procedure then?

4)Lets say 2 subs attack a battleship only and both hit, the battleship cannot fire back correct? If it was only one sub firing and hit then the battleship gets to fire back correct?

      AC question
Lets say your Japanese fleet attacks an american fleet in sea zone 12. In that battle you end up losing your only aircraft carrier. Now either winning the battle or retreating can your planes land in axis controlled Algeria?

      Thanks 4 the help  :-)

So you’re telling me that if Britain has 27$ it can buy 8 men and save 3$? If thats the case then why the hell would anybody buy 9 men with only one idustrial and leave the last infantry for the next round? Is it because they didnt realize that Britain only has a value of 8? Usually with 27$ I would have bought a tank, artillery & 6 infantry to make 8 units but this news changes a lot!  :-o

Im happy to ask more questions. I have read the rule book and most of my questions would be answered in it but I have np double checking to be sure that I have the rules down pact. The question is do you want one at a time or all together?  :-P

    • U.S.A. strategy in the pacific

Hey guys, would love some fresh input on the USA going west side. I have been playing different A&A 1942 games and embarrassingly have never seen the USA KJF

Here are the common issues that I see happen when attempted:

      1. How can you ignore Africa? It seems to be an important task and not going there leaves it wide open to the axis. Is Britain expected to take charge of that front?
2)Splitting your forces works OK in terms of getting troops to Africa but then your convoy is pathetic on the west side
3)Even when you go full blast west side it seems that Japan can easily defend her waters with ease

Most of what I have read states that you must put all your income on the west coast including your bombers (which surprised me because you ignore your German bombing raids). When doing this do you just go at it with Japan’s fleet or is island hopping where its at.

What can I do for a successful USA KJF

      Thanks in advance  :-D
