      Hi, so today I was playing the OOB version of Axis and allies europe 1940 and obviusly ( indeed, a lot of people already said this ) is very un-balanced, so now I decided to change to ALPHA 2, but I have a question, what is the setup, NO’s and turn order for europe theatre only?

      Finland, Romania, Hungary …

      I bought the same types of pieces from Rolco a few years ago:

      http://www.rolcogames.com/search.php?runsearch=true&catid=14

      They are indeed a bit big, but they look good.  The tanks and subs are clones of pieces that were originally designed for the Supremacy board game.  I also bought some of the Rolco rocket pieces in white: laid on their sides rather than vertically, they make pretty good atomic bomb pieces.

      @knp7765:

      I understand where you are coming from.  Capital ships take 2 hits to sink, so they take 2 turns to build, right?  I do see the logic but I have to disagree with this idea.  Aside from Major ICs (30), Battleships (20) and Carriers (16) are already the most expensive units in the game.  Plus, if you add the planes for the carrier, 2 fighters (20), that brings Carriers up to 36, making them the most expensive units in the game.  Yeah, I know I’m talking about 3 units, but really what good is a carrier without some planes on it?
      I just think they are a big enough investment in IPCs already so you shouldn’t also have to invest 2 turns to get one.

      I agree with you, and yes that was what I was thinking of

      @coachofmany:

      @12doze12:

      This topic is a bit … off-topic but what all of us would be if there was no FMG …

      1 - We would be desperate because the Italians use the same sculpts of Germany and France the same has SU … but FMG made a set of units for the Italian and is making one for France.

      2 - We would bored of the same simple dices … but FMG made a set of 3 dices for each faction.

      3 - We wouldn’t know where to put all of the Europe and Pacific 1940 content … but FMG made a box where you can put everything.

      4 - We would be suspicious if our adversary is trying to role the dices to make small numbers came out … but FMG made a dice turret.

      So what will it be to play this game without FMG ???

      And Historical War Gamming, you also made our life better.

      1 - Painted pieces for almost all important nations of ww2.

      2 - You sell each unit from any game separatly.

      3 - And you now are making a set for minor axis and marines.

      FMG and HBG, you saved us !!!

      Thank you…don’t forget the Custom Roundels and new maps too!
      The United States sculpting will start this week for the third set.

      Sorry I forgot those xD United States set ?  :-P

      @FieldMarshalGames:

      In the 1939 variant, I combined ANZAC and CANADA into a new power THE COMMONWEALTH.  The income was split between the two sides of the map (Ottawa / Sydney).  The twist was that this power shares the SAME TURN as the UK.  So they can work in concert with the UK and Calcutta forces.

      Yeah I already know that, but it would be better if they were separated nations, at least i  my opinion

      They are separate Nations, but controlled by one player.  They have separate economies, Capitols etc…

      So house-rule them into a different turn order.

      Though, to be quite honest, on their own Anzac and Canada as completely separate nations would be like playing France … more or less useless.
      Anzac may do alright, but Canada just doesn’t have enough to do anything without the assistance of the UK (which is why having them move on the same turn as the UK and Anzac, all in cooperation, is an amazing way to do it.  It makes for some very interesting moves, especially if you have different people playing UK and Canada/Anzac)!

      But I want them to be in a differnet turn order

      since russia cannot hold out until the bloody end, russia should secure as much material as possible.
      since infantry is too slow to achieve this, i have been thinking about buying mostly mech inf for russia, too. what helps germany can help russia in the same manner.
      mostly it comes down to germany taking leningrad first, then going via belarus, briansk - taking ukraine meanwhile - to moscow, when i am not mistaken.

      IF leningrad is threatened by a decent german force, a retreat to belarus is no help, since the same force can be beaten there instead. so a retreat via archangelsk is fine or a faster force which can joy troops positioned in briansk to fortify there.

      any mobile troops not lost are better then massive infantry buys lost, imho.
      so, just fortifiying cities, makes no sense, except in moscow as a capital city.

      greetings

      rock`n roll

      P.S. Cmdr Jennifer: what do want to express with the attribute “Flottentöterin”? annihilator, murderer, killer, destroyer of the fleets? i guess “Flottenvernichterin” would be better since this means annihilatress or destroyer of the fleets. :D

      I like it the way it is . 1 on 1 is different than 3 on 3. I also think the table top is different than the computer screen.  The Axis had 2 wins this weekend and of the 17 games we’ve played with the ALPHA+2 rules and set up were still about 50/50.  The skill level is about even on our table

      @Endeer:

      In that case it would be entirely worth it for england if they can get the man power to the battle. If they could bring a tank or two infantry, and drop them. Than they can bombard with the cruiser that is off the Brazilian coast.

      They can indeed hook up with the cruiser there, but Brasil is pro-Allies so it would be rude to bomb them ;)

      Sounds to me he was full of it from the beginging.

      How many devices does one have in the house hold that takes pictures?  At least (2), and if you are married you have at least (3).  Every phone takes pictures nowadays.  I can’t imagine that you are unable to upload pictures.

      Give me a break.

      You believe in what you want but neither my phone neither the camera let me put the pics in my PC

      I once played a game where Germany attacked with a good force, France rolled 7 hits of its 9 two combat factor units. France lasted till turn two. However germany took france and Britan on turn 2 which turned the tables for an axis victory.

      I would say that france would benefit the axis because of their first turn fall and their additional income to germany and Italy, this would make the game a 3v2 like all axis and allies games.

      @Bunnies:

      @12doze12:

      Germany? With Germany I mostly build tanks and some fighters. I try to flank SU and go for sea lion and send some infantry to Africa

      and with Japan?  Fighters and transports mostly but also some other navy units. I try to take SU and UK closest territories and at the same time I try to take some of the US islands and go for Australia.

      It’s probably a bit more than that.  You might be opening yourself up to brutal counterattacks.

      Let’s say that you send 4 tanks to attack 3 infantry for control of a 3 IPC territory.  You kill all the infantry in one shot, and lose 2 tanks.  Sounds great, doesn’t it?  You killed 9 IPC of units (+9), gained 3 IPC from the territory, and lost 10 IPC (1 tank) in exchange.  So you went +2. (+9, +3, -10)

      But suppose Russia counters with 2 infantry 1 artillery 1 fighter.  There’s a good chance you lose 2 tanks (+10 IPC to Russia), while Russia loses about 2 infantry in exchange (-6 IPC).  So there Russia went +7 (with the +3 for the territory).

      Maintaining such a rate of exchange will quickly bleed Germany dry.  Sure, your attacks go plus, but if Russia’s attacks consistently have even bigger pluses, that’s bad news.

      In other words - watch those expensive German tanks.  If you’re throwing them away, that’s an easy way to lose quickly.

      Another comment - if Russia’s building all infantry early, you probably won’t have the power to push early with tanks unless Russia carried out a two-territory attack with lousy dice, or tried a risky triple attack.  Try a G1/G2 infantry heavy build, and switching to more tanks later, and completely cutting out the air buys.  (If you buy air, you can try to contest control of the Atlantic, but a total ground buy strategy works decently too, and is something you should probably try at least once or twice to see the differences in play).

      Japan shouldn’t be buying fighters.  Assuming UK killed the Japanese fighter at Kwangtung and moved its sub at Australia to range of French Indochina’s sea zone, your J1 buy should probably be something like 1 destroyer 3 transports.  You start with 2 infantry on Phillipines, 1 on Okinawa, 1 on Wake, and 6 assorted ground on Japan (Tokyo).  You’ll pull two of those units off on J1, leaving 8 units on Japan and the surrounding islands, so a 3 transport build leaves you starting J2 with 4 transports and 8 transportable ground units.  At the end of J2, you will want Japanese transports at French Indochina in most cases; one of those can take units from East Indies (island) to French Indochina on J3, so you will want to build at least 6 ground on J2.  So on J3, you will have 6 ground on Tokyo, and 2 on East Indies; with 4 transports, you can move them all into Asia.  Slight variations include additional transport buy(s) on J2 for early attacks on Africa and Australia/New Zealand (for the last, using infantry from Solomon Islands, Caroline Islands, and New Guinea as applicable.

      If you’re buying that much ground, then air’s pretty much out of the equation.

      If US tries to build a big Pacific fleet, build a few subs (not fighters).  Subs are WAY cheaper than fighters, and hit very hard.  Japan starts with two battleships, two carriers, six fighters, and a bomber.  US should probably only have a battleship and transport in the Pacific at the end of J1 (and a US destroyer at Mexico).

      By the way, try to take China with Japan.  The US fighter makes the US infantry a major threat.  Without the US infantry, Japan’s pretty much neutered.

      You can try installing TripleA; look for Bunnies_P_Wrath; I’ll try to take you through a game.

      Thank you soo much, this really helped me, I’m goign to play with him this weekend and with this information I’m really exicted.

      Thanks men !!!
