Has anyone ever decided NOT to scramble island fighters

It is possible, but if the USA player knows what he’s doing, is maybe a 20-30% chance, tops.

what i believed, the people i played against said japan could not take the territory since only a plane was in it and you could not shoot it…
they also said we had to have infantry attached to artillery to make it fire…and when i argued those points they called me a cheater

Air power alone cannot capture a territory, but it can eliminate all units in that territory without capturing it. At least one ground unit is needed to capture a territory.

Infantry and planes can shoot at each other without problem if they are in the same space.

Artillery can fire alone. However, it doubles the attack strength of an infantry if an infantry accompanies it. The artillery unit doesn’t represent only the equipment, it represents the equipment and the men who use it. Just as you wouldn’t need an infantry to “drive” a tank, the tank is self-contained with all the personnel needed to operate it.

japan initial purchases are transports, then subs and destroyers to keep usa back. they have enough tacs already
china they can not purchase tacs
uk needs to buy ground units
anzac needs to buy cheap naval units
usa is the only country that i would even consider a tac purchase. then give my head a shake and realize that i need more important units.

I say let planes scramble from any airbases anywhere anytime, even land lock airbases.  The defending player still has to make the same choices of where to use his planes to benefit him the most.  Capping it at 6 would be easy to accept and figure out.  Just so long as you make it 1 plane for 1 point of damage on the airbase, so like 5 damage points on an airbase limits it to 1 airplane that can scramble.  You could make exceptions for airbases on capital cities or even for VCs in general, like unlimited scrambling.

Whackamatt, I would like to know when you predict the Japanese will be done with China and India if you attack on J1 as you outline, and the UK buys almost exclusively infantry with just a couple artillery thrown in.  Lets say you think you can be celebrating We Love the Emperor Day in Calcutta on turn 6 (I don’t have a number, I’m just throwing it out there).  Can the US lock down San Fran, Honolulu and Sydney before then and destroy the IJN at Carolines?  Making the Japanese investments in Asia (two ICs + several armor and infantry per turn) may give you a solid hold on Asia but the expense may still put you woefully behind the US and ANZACs.  Then there is the final problem.  The Japanese player can OWN Asia and it won’t matter if the US and ANZACs can take the home island.  I’m not trying to shoot your plan down, I am just trying to see if you have thought this out a bit further.  It is easy to look at an early Japanese move and think, “this is over.”  But that is the same way it was on December 7th when they hit everything.  I think the Allies will still have quite a bit of fight left in them.
