Should the Draft be extended to Women?
-
Its not a question of their ability to perform. Its a question of the conservative, old-fashioned base of White Men accepting the fact that we are all equal in responsibility.
Of course, it is all so clear. It is the white, male, conservatives fault again. Silly me :)
-
It’s always ends up that way, doesn’t it Jazz…
-
hahahaha… and you think it would be the liberals who would be complaining about the draft - much like they did in Nam.
-
The same kind of people were denying Women the right to vote in the early 1900s as are blocking them from being drafted. Both Women and Men pay the same taxes, cast one vote, and get the same (mosty…) benefits from being a part of this nation. They should share the same responsibilities also.

I think i was being misunderstood, whether intentionally or not, i’m not certain.
The fact is that many current militaries are generated by men, with male soldiers in mind. Many of the upper echelons of the military cultures are men, and many operations, exercises, and training are male driven, organized and oriented.
This is why i so brazenly suggest that a separate force be created (if indeed, it is truly necessary - i believe the idea of a draft to be stupid and antequaited in the world as it is today). This could take better advantage of the subtle differences between us, while not subjecting women to something so male dominated and driven.
Also i would not want to be in a platoon/battalion, whatever of women. They are too damn distracting, and i don’t care about the training.
“women are like beer . . . you’d step over your own mother to get one”. This is an element that the military is not prepared to deal with. I would not want to be in a fire fight with a woman that both i, and some jerk in my unit are both attracted to. Call me old fashioned. -
That’s not old-fashioned at all.
I think we’re coming at this from two different perspectives. I don’t want women in the military for their own protection and for mine. On the other hand, Yanny thinks we’re simply trying to suppress women again? (Did I pretty much cover it?)
There are some things that are better left alone. Leave the equal-rights crap at the door and think about this objectively.

No, I am saying that Feminists have secured all of the perks for Women and few of the responsibilities of being equal with Men.
Everyone is equal, everyone in fit health should be required to serve or go to jail if they are picked for the draft. This means Women, Rich people, Political sons and daughters, and ordinary people.
Otherwise, I want to pay less taxes for filling out that draft card.

Yeah, that and trying to get into all-male golf clubs.

It’s not. HOWEVER, I think Enlisted woman (provided they pass the training) should also be given the right to join in co-ed units if they want.
Also I don’t think anybody is “for” the draft. -
Cohed Military units could work if u make the average day and intesity of the Men/Women more intense and in the Training treat them = give them the same standards and such dont treat the women like like Women treat them like men. and some Fun behind the Bunk is good for Morale and would improeve the Comradery between men and women on the front ;)

'average day and intesity" average day and training* ;)

Actually, believe it or not, my aunt and uncle are.
They think that the President should immediately reinstate the draft, and that it should remain permanent. They think you should have a mandatory career in the military for at least two years. Pretty crazy, huh? -
i like ur aunt and uncle ;)

Pretty crazy, huh?Well actually I’m in favor of mandatory service for your country. :) The military is a great place to teach people discipline, duty, and hardwork. They strip down all your bad qualities and build you back up. However, the sons and daughters of celebrities, politicans (even the president’s daughters), the rich, and any others should not be exempt from this. That is why you’ll never see a mandatory service in our country. As for the draft, I’m in favor of it (like everyone else) in only the most dire of situations (ex. WWI, WWII, Civil War, ect.). Otherwise, there shouldn’t be the need for a draft.
-
Mandatory military service will not work in the US. Being a Veteran, I’ve seen plenty go into the military losers and come out about the same. It’s all about what you take with you and what you get out of it. If your not interested in discipline, duty, and hard work, it won’t help you at all. It be worse if US citizens were all made to serve instead of volunteer…
-
The draft won’t ever be needed again. The more and more we develop tech the less likely we’ll need mass amounts of troops. Now we can probably just strap some machine guns on UAV’s to mow dow opposing inf. Within a few years it would probably be cheaper to mass produce those then to worry about training, feeding and housing large amounts of troops. Confrontations will be on a much smaller scale or the Urban type warfare. Plus we have all the coalition building to share responsibilities. Also if a big enough war broke out to require a draft, that will be the least of our problems. At that point we’d probably be tactically nuking any large build up of invading forces or dropping some “peaceful” daisy cutters on them. What a name. :D

i’ll never get that.
much as i’d like to hang out in a women’s only fitness center, it’s certainly not my goal to become a member there. Guys need a place where they can get away from the constant moodiness and b***hing, even for a few rounds of golf. . . . -
DM, I agree with you there, however…
According to Sean Hannity’s radio show, if it was voted on today in the Senate, 40 Senators would vote to bring back the draft.

I see. Too many washouts I gues….

…and very few of those Senator’s would ever win a re-election.

Well, the older generations (Before Baby Boomers) largely support the Draft. And hell, a War always does good things for the politicians in power.
