We use a software called “TripleA” to play A&A-related games. I recommend that you check out the TripleA-related stickies in the TripleA Support Forum

Maybe another option could be playing Attack! or Attack! Deluxe with them first, it’s similar to Axis & Allies but not so complex.

I’ve been checking repeatedly and the 1940 2nd edition chips are always out of stock. I too need to get more.

I took my 1999 Europe, 2001 Pacific, 2004 Revised, 1942, 1942 2nd edition, and 1941 and put them into Artbins. Like you, I left specific campaign, global, and AA50th in their boxes.

Yes the rules are pretty easy to comprehend. I suggest you try reading them and learning from the examples shown there…
