You are correct.

But if you choose to stay and fight then your Subs can’t submerge during combat, because of the Destroyers’ anti-sub capabilties.

yes.  they can disappear in to the dark deep sea and only the almighty destroyer can find them.

Thanks for the clarification, my friend was trying to argue that we couldn’t bring bombers into the sea zone just in case he wanted to scramble.
