N00b question… Always on AA guns (2nd Edition to be specific)

@Imperious-Leader sorry, no pics this time but the table did feel like this was a way better way to begin the game. Gets the game going a little quicker and with zero 9-12 anxiety for either side. Seems like it would be more fair for tournament play also.

AA rolls against Strategic Bombing raids:

Since AA never brought down all planes in a bombing raid, but could seriously impact the accuracy, AA defensive roll from air bases, naval bases, and industrial complexes is changed as follows: 1 = -3 on damage from air raid, with another roll to get a 1 for kill; 2 = -2 on damage roll, plus kill die; 3 = -1 on damage, plus kill die, 4 = +0 on damage; 5 = +1 on damage; 6 = +2 on damage.

The comparison math on this would be… if you had 12 bombers attacking, using 12 avg dice rolls,
under normal rules, 2 bombers would be lost, with 55 damage points against targets.  Under these rules, there would 1 bomber lost, but just 36 damage points against targets.

USSR: 42 (Russia worth 8, Caucasus and Vologda worth 6, Karelia and Novosibirsk worth 4, Archangel and Kazakh worth 3, Okrug, Yakut, Far East, and Buryatia worth 2
Germany: 40
UK: 24 (UK and India worth 6, Egypt and Australia worth 2, South Africa, Trans-Jordan, Western and Eastern Canada, Burma, New Zealand, Gibraltar, and Persia worth 1
Japan: 30
USA: 30 (Eastern and Western USA are worth 10, Central worth 6, Mexico and Panama worth 2)

Allows the USSR to hammer Germany and Japan. USA and UK are weaker to represent slower mobilization times. Also forces Allies to ensure USSR survives, or perish.

Have you ever done or thought about doing something about the lack of Neutral Nation rules in 1942 SE?

I feel like introducing neutral rules would make things far too gamey in some areas, like Mongolia, Sahara, and Turkey. Plus what’s the incentive to attack these regions? No IPCs, the only appeal is strategically positioning yourself, and the Soviets would be screwed because of this. Honestly I would much rather make my own board than add any extra rules for this one, at least I could then place IPC values or redesign territorial positions.

I didn’t read everything about all the Halifax rules and the VC substitute for NO.
I think you are going in the right direction, although.
My 2 cents:
If Dominions needs a few more IPCs, just think about adding a VC to South Africa
And, maybe, just gives a little more IPCs to the capitals terrritories amongst the Dominions.

When I get around to customizing a new G40 Halifax map file, I would have no problem adding Johannesburg to South Africa… especially considering that it would bump the existing 19 VCs, to a nice rounded 20 total.

What if Naval Bases could provide AA cover for ships in a sea zone serviced by a NB. It would seem logical, since the base is located near the coast and would most likely be equipped with Anti Aircraft weapons. So the rule would go something like this: Naval Bases could conduct an opening fire defensive action using an AA gun that could target no more than 3 air units, this would last only one round. After the AA gun fires, normal combat proceeds.

Though if the NB being used is damaged, it cannot use this ability.

use the standard rules on the first 4 pages. play the game like that before you move further with optional rules. You have to learn how to win using the basic rules first, before you get in a situation where you got all the bells and whistles on and wonder that its not balanced. It is.
