Yeah, it was a conscious decision to paint them in that way. No Japanese ship in WWII had big orange waterline markings as far as i’m aware of.
95% of my painting background is in men and tanks, i had never done ships before. So faced with the decision of
a.) Paint them super accurately, but harder to distinguish
b) paint them like game pieces, less accurate but easy to identify
I went with B, there are pros and cons to both sides. (Most of my friend are not military history freaks like me)
In fact it was yours and sam hills pictures on BGG that inspired me to do the painting in the 1st place, I saw your guys work and went “damm, thats cool, i reckon i should give this a go”. So thanks for the inspiration
For those who haven’t seen Sams job, its pretty good, especially the bases for his aircraft which he hand cast himself.
