Chart 2:
Super Submarines: Again, the most useless technology in the game. Does Larry have a Jones for Submarines or something??? Honestly, submarines are already pretty much useless, all this technology does is make the couple you might have slightly stronger on attack. (Does not effect defense, so all your hundreds of super submarines still die to one destroyer and a few dozen heavy bombers doing nothing but sinking the destroyer, if you’re lucky.)
This might be the only technology where committing in game hara-kiri would be expected.
Jet Fighters: I think this has been greatly improved from previous incarnations of the game. It’s more logical that jets would be stronger offensively and defensively, fighters are already really strong. No need to have anything defending at a 5 really.
Improved Shipyards: Oh goody, this is the second version of the holy grail for Japan and America and England.
Radar: If you are getting hammered by SBRs, and I don’t know a single nation immune from them except China, this can stop it more than paying for itself in short order. (Yes, America can get hit, I do it all the time from Hawaii. +20 IPC damage to W. USA is always fun.)
Long Range Aircraft: So many uses, so litle time. First off: if you get it on UK 1, you can immediately hit and sink the Italian fleet just with the fighters on England itself. Secondly, Japan/USA no longer need the islands closes to their enemies to hit their industrials. Third, just how bloody cool is it to fly your bomber 8 spaces anyway!?
Heavy Bombers: A classic and good to have again! Nothing really to be said here, it’s the same old technology you’ve grown to love from Classic (though in classic you had 3 dice, not two.)
