Do you have to set a high limit on auctions ?

For a first couple games, I’d play with no bid at all. Have one (side/team/person) first play one side and then swap sides. That will help the players involved learn just how much bid they want to have in the future. Bids are more for when competitive players who know how to play the game sit down to rumble. If you just want to play a game one off, just have the experienced players play the Allies and the inexperienced play the Axis.

I echo Tim and Fleetwood Dan.  They make great points.
Doesn’t matter that much if you’re talking '41 or '42.  Zhukov seems to be referring to '41, the fantasy scenario.  Even in '41, with less “cash”, I am known to buy 3 researchers J1.  They have all the units they need, but how much more powerful if they can get their 9 fighters to be long range or jets?  I’ve taken Hawaii in J1 in '41 with jets before.

Packrat, long range air with USA or Japan is devastating.  In my experience, it’s more potent than heavy bombers, with those powers.

In my experience (at least 30 tech games) tech does not favor one side over the other.  They can both afford their researchers, and both sides, as pointed out, get huge boosts from certain techs.

played 2 day……us fleet takes iwo jima and puts a couple subs in sz that contains japan. 
uk fleet blocks italia’s fleet in med.  on atlantic side uk forces take norway w/ 1 tank
ussr reinforces moscow and a uk fighter assists.
germany’s turn next

I would not think that italy should change sides. But it would be fun if italy could be it own side, and try to take over the world independant of germany and japan. long shot, but a true gammer could try.
