AARHE Map question

I tried to delete this topic but I guess I can’t.  Mods please delete this topic.  I’m going to ask my questions in the G40 boards, as it seems like that is probably the better place to ask my questions as they pertain to specifically G40

idk_iam_swiss, please try to setup the AA1942 board and play it as is, you will see by round 3 there is not enough space in Europe for all your units.  I meant small to mean that the actual territories (map size) are too small to place all your units, look at the size of the bombers alone.  I’m pretty sure that’s why IL made the map.  I could be wrong.  But the few times our group has played it that and running out of Japanese armor was our biggest gripe.  We ended up using German armor as Japanese with a flag underneath it.  Come on 8 Japanse armor?  What was WotC/AH thinking?

Its not “too small” for a begginer, Save your money. If you find out you like this game. I recomend getting the one coming out this december. Its going to be part of a two part series and youll find the map (just pacific) is larger than your current one. The two together will more than likely take up your ENTIRE kitchen table.

If there is a Russian sub in SZ 12, can German Subs move through that zone from SZ 7 to SZ 18 to do combat?  If so, would it make a difference if I had a transport there or is it just a destroyer?

For some reason I just thought they could only move through zones like that if it was a NCM but I’m just double checking.  Some sneakysnake did that to me and I just didn’t know it was legal.

When recieving a map via email or whatever, I always do a “Save As” and save to a folder, then open up ABattlemap, then go to the open file command in the drop down boxes in Abattlemap, and click on the folder you just saved the map to, then open the map.

In basic A & A, you must unload all troops from a TR on the same territory, & once the troops are offloaded, the TRs movement ends. You CAN p/u troops from different locations (say load one INF in Phillipines, move TR to Okinawa, load another INF at Okinawa, move to Sea Of Japan SZ, unload both INF in Manchuria), but they all must be unloaded on the same territory (in the example, the 2 INF could be unloaded on either Manchuria or Japan Home Islands but not one on each).

In any case where a unit is involved in combat on Combat Phase, that unit’s move ends & it may not move again on Non-Combat Movement. The only exceptions are FTRs & BMRs which may fly out on Combat Move, be part of a battle in Combat, then fly back on Non-Combat Movement.

It’s possible I’m wrong about the landing of units on 2 land territories adjacent to the same body of water as the TR, but if I am, the rule is logical, & intuitive & I would recommend using it anyway…

Ok, basically, can transports unload troops for an assault on the same turn that you destroyed the navy around that island?

In my first game (still under way…) my friend as the US dropped a AA gun on midway and also dropped some planes there as well (why, no reason…just cause he didnt see a threat…)

Then Japan decided to strike the massive navy he had around midway then drop some infantry in midway with fighter support to take out the bombers stationed there.

Is this a legal move?

Shouldnt the battle around midway have to take place one turn before the invasion of the island?

If not, then how come I cant take a landlocked territory and then blitz through with some tanks and air support to hit the next?

My friend (the only one who has played the game before…) says that you CAN take the sea territory then rush assault the island in the same turn, but that you cant take a land territory, blitz through with tanks and take an adjecent territory.

These two acts are exactly the same, just involving different units. In one your waging a battle, bringing in transports and dropping off troops. In the other your waging a battle, bringing in tanks and attacking with them.

My friend argues that its because all of this is done at once and that the transport unloads during the combat. However, couldnt it be said that the tanks had already planned on rushing through the battle to blitz the next territory? If transports are allowed to drop off troops and attack an island after the naval battle, why arent tanks granted the same privalege on land?

Tanks could be used the same way, make them vaulnerable during the initial fight, but not able to fight back. It doesnt seem fair that its one way but not the other. And it especially doesnt seem fair that my friend didnt tell us about this rule before it came back and bit us in the ass.

We stopped the game before this act to find out which way was right. Because if the transports are allowed to drop off its forces then the allies basically lost because 3 bombers and a fighter will be destroyed. However, I could have destroyed a similar force with my tanks but was told I could not because they couldnt go through a conquered territory until next turn.

Just doesnt seem fair…

whats the official rules? we couldnt find anything about transports unloading after the coastal territory was won.

Nope, thats the way it was in the original game. Changes thing quite a bit huh!
