KJF Round 1

Honestly, I believe it is best to play ultra conservatively with Russia and England and see how the dice line up.  If one Axis power ends up in an exceptionally poor position after their first round, America can then make the choice between KJF or KGF.

However, here is a run down for you:

Kill Germany First:

Easiest strategy.  Everyone is clustered around Germany so coordination is easier.  This is also much more fault tolerant then going after Japan.  However, Germany also has the most assets and the best capability of getting assets, not to mention all of their territories are land locked (comparatively speaking of course) resulting in much easier defense of those territories.  Exceptions are Norway, Algeria and Libya, but those 5 IPC can be made up for in other places if needed (and if not, 35 IPC is still a lot of money.)

Kill Japan First:

Japan’s by far the weakest power on the board.  Their territories are scattered all over the ocean and they start the game facing two moderately powerful fleets.  (UK: 2 Transports, Submarine, Fighter, Carrier, Destroyer in SZ 30 and America’s Battleship, Transport, Destroyer, Submarine, 3 Fighters and Carrier in the Pacific (SZ 52, 55, 20, Hawaii and W. USA.))  However, they also have the benefit of being scattered all over the place making it harder to take their territories (but easier to hold once they are taken.)

If facing a large build up of forces in Buryatia, Sinkiang + Industrial Complex and India + Complex, Japan can find them selves in serious trouble fast; but Germany will have much free’er reign in Europe and Africa.

Yeah, I modified my strat after the Doolittle raid  :-D. That’s why I left the DD out of combat. But, don’t forget, there were some repercussions that weren’t immediately apparent to either of us. Namely, the US lost half it’s fighters and the bomber. Because of that, Germany retained air superiority for most of the game and it allowed them to hold off the Allies until Japan rebuilt.

If Japan doesn’t clear sz59, there will be 2 BB, 1 CV, 3 TP, 1 SS in sz60 and you can shift a fighter there, as well, if the sz45 SS is sunk.

If Japan clears sz59 without loss, sz60 will have 1 CV, 2 fig, 1 DD, 1 SS, 3 TP. Against 1 bmb, 2 fig, 1 CV, 1 SS the average result is 4 surviving japanese units. A greener player might take the TP’s as losses but, as more advanced players, we can see the obvious advantage of losing 1 fig, 1 DD, 1 SS, 1 TP and leaving 1 fig, 1 CV, 2 TP to preserve the bulk of Japan’s landing force especially since the US will have just sacrificed more than half of it’s current offensive firepower in the Pacific. No matter what the US builds on it’s turn, after that combat, Japan will still retain naval superiority and have $38 to respond with.

If the sz45 SS is sunk, you can also shift the strat and send the DD to sz59 and hold back the sz60 BB instead if you’re concerned about a US strike. Plus, building the TP’s in sz61 is still an option no matter how J1 plays out. I just see building in sz61 as Japan’s way of setting itself back a turn so I try to avoid it if at all possible. Getting Japan out of the gate at full speed is always first priority to me.

You would not have the income to maximize productions at all 3 IC’s… EVER (unless the game was already over).

2 INF in Karelia for a cost of 21 IPC’s over 2 turns is not a good Russian buy… just buy 4 ARM in Moscow 1 turn, and send them to Karelia the next instead :-)

sending tanks into st. petsburg makes more sense but you only have to build in moscow when japan suddenly comes a tapping As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. for it is Only this, and nothing more.

In response to the KJF Bluff…

NEVER change strats during a game.  If you are going KJF, STAY KJF.  Otherwise, just go KGF, and STICK WITH IT.

Trying to bluff in the Pacific as the US leaves the Axis with economic dominance, and with USA and UK in NO position to assist a dying Russia.

This poll and post is even more difficult to answer than the combat poll.  This one not only depends on prior combat, but also on the outcome of those combats.  Your planned NCM can be obsolete and/or foolhardy by the time it’s time to make it.
