Any interest in War at Sea support for MapView

  • @Motdc:

Hexes and offset squares are actualkly the same

I should have known that.

  • Please feel free to try this MapView test of War at Sea which can be downloaded at:

    http://www.battlevault.com/Campaigns/Guadalcanal/Guadalcanal_01.htm

Mot has done a great job of walking people through how to get up and running with MapView on this forum. All you need to do is drop the downloaded “War_at_Sea_Test.udm” file into the MapView mods folder and you should be good-to-go.

A couple of notes on this test file:

    1. I am still trying to figure out the right scaling of everything.
    2. The color and bit depth of the map went is a little out of whack.
    3. I still need to go and buy the starter set to learn the game to see what else needs to be added to the MapView mod.
    4. I ultimately hope to have six MapView mods, one for each map, with at least Pacific WWII fleets.

I’ll take a look at it tonight.

And Hook you up with some feed Back

  • I can’t open it… what did I do wrong?

  • I just tested it and everything worked OK on this end. You should just have to download the ZIP file, extract the UDN file, and place it in your MapView mods folder. When you open MapView, create a new game and you should see “War at Sea Tset” as the last option of game to create.

I have since been tweaking the map size and working on the US and Japanese fleets. I should have a fully functional version posted tomorrow night.

I figured it out. He He

    Nice.

Your Carrier looks alittle off. Fuzzy. I know it’s a test. GJ though

Now can you use this thing in a thread where Both players can Manipulate their Pieces on 1 Map?

I’m happy to see your able to use it.

Not sure what you mean by both players can manipulate ther pieces on one map?  We play turn by turn.  At the beginning of the turn you add a new map and name it (allies move 1, axis attack 2 etc).  At the end of your turn you post the map in the forum, the opossing player does the same for his turn.  so on and so on.

We use blue arrows for movement and red for attack.

At any point in the game you can tab back on the map to view previous rounds.

  • I have updated the War at Sea Map 01 and added the Set I US Fleet. The units are to scale now. I’m working on the Japanese fleet right now.

    [dice=6d6]

Then it will display Dice rolls

  • We do the die rolling here on this forum.

    Exampe dice roll:
    DiceRolling 12D6:
    (1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5)

We post the MapView files here on this forum after each phase. Have you followed any of the Axis & Allies Miniatures “play-by-forum” games here on this forum? They all use MapView modules and the forum based die roller.

  • Looking good Brother.

One suggestion, add ship names below the images for us noobs.

  • Yes, there should be ship names that appear when you hold the cursor over the image.

  • The latest “War at Sea Map 01” Mapview MOD now includes. US Fleet, Japanese Fleet, and War at Sea Markers. You can download it at:

    http://www.battlevault.com/Campaigns/Guadalcanal/Guadalcanal_03.htm

  • While I think everything looks good in this first attempt at a War at Sea MapView game mod, it really wont be a usable gaming tool until I get my version of MapView registered. The UDM files I create on an unregistered version of MapView can be opened, looked at and tested … but can not be saved for use in PBF games. Looks like we’ll have to wait until MOT gets back from vacation for the registration.
