A student, obviously looking to make a rant/point, stepped over the line at a rally.
While resisting arrest, he was tasered.
Alot of students have come to his defense.
Personally, I saw the video, thought he was being a jerk, and deserved the tasering.

After hearing the recordings and listening to the poor man beg for mercy from the officers, it seems to me more like he was willing to go quietly but the officers were directed to taser him.

Where he charges to the front of the line, acts disrespectful, and breaks away several times from the officers escorting him from the premises.
The taser was only after he resisted arrest/being booted.

Anyway, from what I hear it’s a guy begging the officers not to taser him. Once you start saying that, odds are you are not resisting and any tasering that’s happening is police brutality.
Without the “Don’t taser me Bro” repeated numerous times, I’d agree that tasering is probably better then getting into a fight or shooting a suspect.

Think about that for a moment. He’s in a public forum and has been recognized by the host/speaker of the forum. You complain that he is not “shutting up.”
At the risk of slipping into political, don’t you think he should have the right to speak? After all, he was just asking Mr. Kerry if he and President Bush both met with the same fraternal order while they were in their respective college attendances. That seems to have been the straw that broke the camel’s back resulting in the student reporter / protester being man handled by the police and tasered, even after he had shown signs of surrender.
And yes, the first sign of surrender is all it should take for the police to back down their level of force. They can always re-elevate later if the situation warrants. I don’t think this specific case warranted it. The man made his mark, he said what he wanted to say, the police just made the entire thing look like Mr. Kerry couldn’t handle a question and so the man asking it was arrested instead of getting an answer. That, more then anything, probably said a lot more then the victim intended to say, probably.
Again i vote on the side of order and the greater good. These cops (tend) to not make these decisions lightly. Daily - hourly - i have to make difficult decisions and the stress level can be quite daunting - i can hardly believe that these cops did little more than flip a mental coin. I think that in the future people may need to realize that they have very simple choices to make: Thwart those here to serve society and protect people like me and get tasered, or make one’s point and get out of the way, and make your point in other ways.
Let’s put it in perspective:
If it was a US Soldier tasering an Iraqi, you’d all be up in arms. But because it was a college kid being tasered by the police, it’s suddenly okay?

i can see this whole topic being tasered given your blatant foray into PD, but yeah,
i don’t think that US soldiers should ever have been sent off into Iraq, nor do i think that some college brat should be allowed to cause this kind of a disturbance.

It’s shame when idiots feel they need to put other people in a bad situation begause they want attention. This guy obviously was after attention. But he could have been hiding a weapon, or been insane enough to bum rush the stage and make a leap at Kerry when he was cut off.
The point being that the cops cant just assume you are only seeking attention. Once you resist them, multiple times no less, the cops have to protect themseves, and the crowd, from potential harm.

I could be making bombs in my garage. I’m not. But I could be! Should the police come taser me in my home? Especially if I let them in, after getting a warrant?
The guy was OBVIOUSLY not resisting. He begged the officers not to taser him. He didn’t threaten them if they tasered him.
I think tasering CAN be legitimate. Haven’t and don’t care to see the video in this case. I think tasering can also be an abuse of power. Peaceful protesters should not be tasered. Rioters should. Actually, I think a sleep spell would do the best job.
