Times are tough for French winemakers, furious that they have to complete with a burgeoning international market.  Thanks in part to the unofficial American boycott and the resulting wine glut, wine prices are in the tank.  So what’s in-the-red Jacques to do?  Why not join a violent guerilla group.  “The Crav” (the Union for Viticultural Action) has demanded the Sarkozy government artificially jack up wine prices or else “blood will flow.”  According to the BBC, the shadowy gang has already hit a few supermarkets with small explosives and hijacked at least one truck containing wines from abroad.  A video of members clad in black hoods threatened violent confrontation.  But never fear, this will be a short insurrection, after all, this IS France, someone is bound to surrender eventually!

  • My god- only the frogs could come up with a ‘resistance’ movement based on the principle of falling wine prices. Unbelievable.

  • I drink American, Australian, Spanish and Italian wines.  There is OE bottle of French Wine that has entered (and still is present) my wine rack in the past several years, and it was a gift.

No need for those “old vines” in France.  I like newer vineyards anyway… a better variety of flavors from the new growth and fresh fertile soils of new vineyards…

  • jen’s despcriptio reminded me of the tale of two cities. with the broken wine cases.

I see you are quite ignorant about the history of the US concerning violent intervention and private enterprise.
