No. The decision to submerge is made in the “Press Attack or Retreat Step”.
This is before rolling the dice again.

To be clear, subs always fire in Opening Fire, before other units.  The presence or absence of an enemy destroyer simply determines when subs’ casualties are removed.  In your example, there is no attacking destroyer, so the casualties from the subs are removed immediately and will not get a chance to fire.  If there had been an attacking destroyer, the subs’ casualties would get to return fire.  Note that a sub hit by another sub will always fire, as both are firing simultaneously in Opening Fire.

In this game you don’t need destroyers in order to hit subs with air units.  The fighters will get one round of fire before the subs can submerge.  An attacking destroyer would simply keep the subs from submerging (forcing them to endure additional rounds of attacks) until the destroyer was sunk.

A friend of mine and I are arguing over the interpretation of the attack/defend rules of basic combat. In the instructions it says to roll for all units with the same attack or defend value at the same time. Does this mean if I have 10 infantry units I roll one die for all ten or do I roll for each unit individually (10 Die)?

My thought was that if you roll one die for multiple units with low attack value (infantry), it keeps their offensive value low (making battle more realistic), but rewards large numbers of infantry units by awarding many hits on a successful attack/defend roll.
It seems a bit weird that a few infantry troops could very easily take out an equal number of  tanks.

Lemme know your thoughts. Official rules first, but favorite house rules welcome.

Those Canadian troops (or troop if it’s just that arm) can still make it out. Just pick them/it up in sz9 instead.

You’re right.  Good catch!  I didn’t have access to the map when I wrote this.  What I should have said was that you can’t load them in sea zone 1.  You could move to sea zone 9, if it’s friendly, and pick them up from there.  However, this does limit your options for movement to Algeria, the United Kingdom and Panama (and the Eastern US, though you don’t need a transport to go there), and then only in combat movement.  If you’re trying to stop a UK counter-attack against an invasion of the United Kingdom, you need to either sink the transport or block sea zone 9.

Under LHTR, your only options for these troops are amphibiously assaulting Panama, Eastern USA, United Kingdom or Algeria.  Under the box rules, you would also be allowed to leave the troops on board the transport at sea.

The movement points of an aircraft are TOTAL movement.  They must take off AND land within the alloted total movement points.

So in your example, a FIG could non-combat move to land in Land 2, but could not attack it because it takes 4 points to get there, the FIG has to be able to land, and you cannot land in newly captured territory.

I hope you’re not taking me as a Rules ‘Nazi’, but the rules of Enhanced are the way they are to ensure a fair, balanced game.

You could be right, the lack of playing by the rules, that might explain some of the imbalances you have observed.

A rules nazi is someone who doesn’t take into account that we’re playing on a forum and not face to face.  Not someone who enforces the rules. :P

Surely LHTR do not cover all the rules - that are there are still parts of the games that the rule book do not clarify which means you have to make things up….
