I played a couple of games with the Allies versus really skilled axis players and I loosed every single game against them. I’m familiar with the basic principles of strategy and tactics in the game but I would be happy to get some advice how to slow down the japanese movements to Moscow (if at all…) since Japan seems to be the major problem
When should I run and when (and where) should I stand and fight?
Usually I do the following:
I always try to sink the japanese Transport in the Kwangtung SZ with the british Destroyer and I withdraw the rest of the commonwealth troops in an attempt to recapture Egypt und to prepare a second attack on it if necessary (turn 2). The transport from SZ 40, loaded with 2 divisions from Australia an escortet by a Sub, moves east and therafter goes to Europe or Africa.
The eastern parts of the Red Army move west and 6 divisions will be concentrated in Novosibirsk.
The chinese troops from Sinkiang go north to unite with the Soviets in Novosibirsk.
But experience shows that all my efforts here seem to be useless.

Practice makes perfect
if you can, consolidate the british fleet in the pacific, it’ll probably have most of its ships sunk, unless japan opts to use its forces for something else. use this fleet to harass his islands or around india. that will force him to build boats and come after you.
america can put token forces: maybe an ac with two figs on it, a sub or two, and a trans or two, and also start to harass japan. this will make japan split its navy, or take the time to move against the brits/americans fleet and then the other allies fleet next, which will be far away and take time. all the while you can hopefully use your other allied fleet not being targeted to try and take an island or two or threaten kwan, fr.indo, or india and that makes japan leave forces behind, rather than them being shipped to the russian front. its hard work.
as aj said, you’ll get the hang of it. or perhaps you’ll get lucky dice in a naval battle, and stick that in japans face. those dinks will be pissed! :wink:

What round is it when Japan takes Moscow? (usually)
Are you bolstering Moscow’s defense with Allied units?
What is America doing?
What is UK doing?
Without having a lot of information, I am guessing that you are not (A) Coordinating the Allies enough and (B) Hitting Germany hard and fast enough. If Russia does not have the resources to hold off Japan long enough for the UK and US to take Berlin, it is not Russia’s fault. (unless Russia got too greedy and over-extended itself westward) It is likely the other Allies are not coordinating fast enough. If they can occupy Germany, then Russia can focus on holding off Japan. Remember, a good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow. :-D

Nooooppe, wrong. It’s a perfect practice makes practice perfect. In other words, practice how you would play in a real game.
There are different things the UK and US can do but from just the Russian perspective, I like to retreat all the Eastern troops 1 territory per turn (unless they can safely defend). The key is to retreat before getting killed. Then by turn 3-4 you should have a fairly decent stack in the Novo/Kaz area.
IMO it is not worth spreading yourself out early and fighting over 3 territories worth 1 IPC each (sfe, bury, yak) and 2 that are US (chi, sin).
Shorten your supply lines while increasing Japans, and then as they get close to Moscow, that is when you punch back.
Ideally you want to buy yourself 4-5 rds allowing the UK and US to land in Afr and then set up their position in Nor/Kar, so as the UK and US land heavy in Northern Europe, Russia can now slowly retreat from Europe and turn its entire army against Japan.
I move the TRN in SZ 40 with the two troops to India where if the timing is right I build an IC.
As far a s Russian troops I mass all the troops from SFE (2 INF) and Buryat (2 INF) in Yakut (2 INF for a total of 6 INF. Maybe move a tank from Moscow. It works but be advised it’s a temporary solution. It will only work a an effective barrier until Japan has a bigger force next to it.
It’s important to hold China as long as you can. The reason for this is you want Japan to have a multi front with your territories. If you hold China they will have to defend and hold French Indo-China, Kwengt…, and Manchuria, as apposed to you holding up in Sinkiang and Japan only having to defend China.
That’s what I do as far as Japan goes. Axis countries have a lot of assets and a smaller economy base. For them to have any hope of wining is to match or exceed the income of their allied rivals. In order for you to prevent that you need to contain them in a timely manner.
