Africa will provide about 3X the ipcs each turn that India will.

And don’t forget that the African Ipcs are most likely to be German rather than Japanese. It makes a big difference to have Germany at 30-33 as opposed to 39-42. 3ipcs(India) makes little to no difference to the Japanese in the grand scheme of things. I see big problems with a Japan first strategy primary among these are that Germany can get too big and walk through Ukr, Cauc and eventually take Karelia. If there are no masses of Allied troops preparing to take WEuro/FinNor then the Allies are in big trouble even if the push against Japan is succeeding.

it all depends on the country in question. no one unit is best for all of them. but here’s my picks :) :

Russia: INF, sheer numbers can overwhelm the german war machine on a relentles march to berlin

Germany: Tanks/Armor, blitzkrieg, thats all there is to it

UK: trannies, i know it sounds stupid, but without them the UK can’t do much of anything

Japan: anything, japan needs all the help she can get on the mainland, it doesnt really matter what it is, just get units there quick

USA: Carrier w/ 2 Fighters, can we say smackdown?? they can obliterate japan’s navy while also serving to protect units in an amphib assault

now these are just my picks, they might not work for all your strats, so feel free to tweak them to work for you.

i just recently played a game where the chips ran out but thats just because my opponent put like 50 infantry on germany

Once in the New Game menu, instead of clicking Begin, click on Options, then Edit Unit is directly above your choice of buttons for that menu.

Taking on UK can be done only on a surprise basis–your enemies must have no idea you are planning to go vs. UK until it’s too late for them to do anything about it. Even so, it’s risky…it’s rare that vs. expert players you’d even have a chance. But since you did it once… :wink:

Do as waraxis says and play all-out economic war vs. UK. Take India, take Australia; Germany should deploy heavily in Africa, take as much territory as possible, then attempt to link up w/ Japan through the Suez. You will be in the impossible compromise situation of having to save your FTRs & BMR for the attack, while at the same time keeping Allied ships away from North Sea. This is important as well because if the Allies start loading INF into USSR it will be impossible for you to survive. With a good 1/2->2/3 of the Japanese fleet in the Med, you will buy yourself a little time to build some TRs as Germany–build 'em all in 1 turn! The round of the assault, attack with all available Japanese forces to soften up the UK & take over the North Sea SZ. Then, on Germany’s turn, launch the main invasion.

Since UK is poor anyway, you will not net very many IPCs from plunder, but you have siezed an Allied capital that will be almost as difficult for them to liberate as it was for you to conquer.

Now just conquer USSR and you win! :o

As you can see, this is an extremely difficult maneuver to pull off, and one the Allies have to be practically helping you to do! But who knows? With the element of surprise–and if USA deploys in the Pacific…you never know…

My advice–kill USSR. If you can do that, THEN try to take UK. Or even USA, since they are sometimes easier to kill at that point in the game!

Of course you still have to factor in limitations at two per side or distribute them equally to both sides at the beginning of the game. Changing units stats and/or adding in new units are the surest way to expand the game into a new field of tactics and dynamics. This frees up a considerable amount of complexity and difficulty of altering the game board itself (too sticky), adding in totally new rule sets (too difficult to learn), or using dinosaurs (too extinct). Interested to learn, if anybody else has variations on different units.
