Fav. A&A game

It was 1990, I was 18 years old… I moved to the big city of Toronto and my new friends were gamers who played Risk all the time. I quickly got bored of it and was looking for an alternative game I could introduce to them and I saw on the store shelf Axis & Allies from Milton Bradley “a game of high adventure” and “decide the fate of the world in just a few short hours” (lol). Unfortunately we were all pretty hammered by the end of the night and the only thing I remember of my first game was punching out all the plastic pieces from the plastic stencil racks and all the roundels from the cardboard sheets. it was an instant hit with the whole group and I played it with them religiously for up to 2 years until I moved back home to Peterborough. I brought my game with me and it wasn’t long before I hooked some old high school friends to it, and over the next 8 years I played Classic edition even more than I did before. After that in 2000, I moved back to Toronto where I discovered Spring 1942, then A&A Anniversary edition and finally Global 1940… ironically, I met someone from that first group from the early 90’s almost 20 years later, we accidentally bumped into each other online and we have been playing 1 on 1 1940 Global games every month for the past 5 years.

I agree that it sucks to lose 2 or 3 vital and expensive planes to FlaK in one attack, but since my FlaK usually never hits at all, it kinda makes up for it when it happens to my opponent.  :lol:

I was thinking that there was a set of 6 cards; 1 through 6, and for every enemy plane that flew over the gun you randomly drew a card, (for every set of up to 6 enemy planes that fly over). Then turn over the cards, if the 1 card is there, you got a hit!
An example of an attack of more than 6 planes
  8 planes fly over/attack: the first 6 planes suffer an auto hit, because you would draw all 6 cards
    for the last two planes, shuffle the deck and draw two random cards, if the “1” card is drawn,  you got a second hit!

The name of out club is aawc and we have 2v2 play with leagues and 1v1 play with leagues and tournaments. The name of our 2v2 is Squadron(Squad) and Mercenary(Merc). Anyone and everyone signed up to aawc can play in Merc. In Squad you must be on a team to play. You can join a team or create 1 but you have to have people to create one with or you must have a captain agree to let you join. The name of our server is WarZone, which has 5 different servers on it with A&A, Outlaws, Panzer General 2, Risk2, and total Annihilation.    Hope to see you on the zone.

Yes, I would also agree that a rd 3 lurch is too early for Germany.

In this game, EEU was stacked so well that it was unfeasible for Russia to attack it ever. This was also a good strat becuase the tanks just sat there for defense until they were needed in Karelia or WEU, and more and more inf just kept piling up there.

The 4 German inf bid in Libya also made things difficult for the allies. UK could have used its bomber against German ships but it was too preoccupied with liberating Africa.

Curious how this CD-ROM will be… A&A meets RTS???

Yes, if you download it somewhere it runs very slow after a wile, the same thing happend to me, buy it instead online or somthing, its prety hard to find it in the stores now.

Very good response. I’d like to add that if you are talking about 1 TR (unsupported) vs. 1 TR (also unsupported), the defender will always win since the attacker has 0 attack value. I.E. essentially you can’t do it.

Unless you play with an always active AA gun, flyovers on AA guns on the Non Combat Move cannot be fired upon by the AA gun.

In any attack of the nature you described, the AA gun must roll one die for each attacking plane (that is, FTRs & BMRs) at the same time–attacker chooses losses. This concept is reflected throughout the game in various different instances. For instance, your dice in Combat are rolled by “column” on the BattleBoard. After you roll for all “columns” then count the raw # of hits, the opponent chooses what got hit (except in the rare case when multi-national defenders cannot agree, in which case the attacker chooses). In research as well, you can’t buy 1 Tech Die at a time and roll till you get a hit; you must decide how many dice you want and roll all of them at once.
