Source for watching TV (mostly older shows that are no longer on)

Just now joining the conversation. Star Trek Discovery is in my top two favorite Star Trek series.

I’ll go out on a limb here an say most of TNG was just plain boring. There were a few interesting episodes but for the most part, boring. Every series after that followed suit until Discovery.

To me, it feels like Battlestar Galactica, The Expanse, Star Trek Original Series, and some of the Star Trek movies (new and old), and the result is great. The tie-in to the pilot was genius and basically solidified my opinion of the show.

Though, it must be blindingly bright everywhere on the ship with all of those lens flares. Even J.J. Abrams admited he over used it; why is this series doing the same? “Captain, getting those readings for … arrrgggh, the console is as bright as the sun!”

I often come across interesting news and information sources and thought maybe it might be of value of we could share some of them.  I would suggest nothing that was too narrow in focus or too partisan on issues.  If there is a partisan slant then it should at least be somewhat subtle, polite and humourous if possible.

It seemed well written so I checked out the blog and liked his style, but it’s not been fully vetted yet.  I would be considered leftist in the US (on some issues that seem to be hot button and rightist on economic issues) but his recent comments on David Gregory et al were pretty funny

Not allowed to add pictures of officers I don’t like to War Criminal posters
May no longer perform my now (in)famous “Barbie Girl Dance” while on duty
Not allowed to let sock puppets take responsibility for any of my actions
Not allowed to let sock puppets take command of my post
Not allowed to ask for the day off due to religious purposes, on the basis that the world is going to end, more than once
“Napalm sticks to kids” is not a motivational phrase
Not allowed to trade military equipment for “magic beans”
Not allowed to sell magic beans during duty hours
Not allowed to quote “Dr Seuss” on military operations
Not allowed to yell “Take that Cobra” at the rifle range
Not allowed to quote “Full Metal Jacket “ at the rifle range
An order to “Put Kiwi on my boots” does not involve fruit
An order to “Make my Boots black and shiny” does not involve electrical tape
May not pretend to be a fascist stormtrooper, while on duty
May not wear gimp mask while on duty
May not bring a drag queen to the battalion formal dance
Must not use military vehicles to “Squish” things
If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it

Never got into DandD though I have friends who have. I was and still am into the old West End Games Star Wars Roleplaying Game. That is a blast. Unfortunately West End Games went under and our friends at WOTC bought got involved and had to redo the game in their own way. Over all their version was more restrictive and a lot less fun for me. I tried it once…It lasted about as long as the guy who rolled a gungun to play a star wars mission. Said gungun died less than a few minutes into the mission. I hate gunguns.

My closest friends from college still play this game (the same ones who play AanaA) and we try to get together a few times a year to play, camp, fish, hike, and well just have a good time.

I agree, got a little “out there” in a hurry.

But for the time period, just a couple years after Star Trek went off the air, it was so technically superior…
And let’s face it, those Eagles were pretty sweet :-)

And yes, Maya the “alien waif” was a true hottie :-)  Fine, I’ll date myself :-P

Granted BET ain’t ABC, cBS, or NBC, but they made a decision based on the bottom line…
or the viewership line.  Which due to advertising works out to about the same thing.

What? They don’t want to edgykate de bros about the evils of W, Republicans, Colin Powell, Condoleeza Rice and Clarence Thomas??

I seem to recall one or more of the major networks going through financial struggles and having to cut the budget so the news wasn’t such a drag on the bottom line$$$$.

And now we may soon have Perky Katie Kouric(sp?) taking the anchor news_reader_ chair @ one network and the Survivor Celebrity Newstarget(who was set up for an assassination attempt by his own network) taking another news_reader_ chair.

More big money to a losing cause.
