  • Hi, my nephew and I are gonna start this game and while the rules seem simple enough I just have two questions I’d be grateful if someone could clarify:

1). If you have just moved naval units into an enemy sea zone do you have to attack enemy units (and would the same apply to later reinforcements you bring in)? Also, can you retreat after any round of rolls in naval battles?

2). When moving initially into a new enemy territory you have to attack with all units but it says you can choose not to in subsequent turns or when you reinforce. But I’m just unclear if the defending side has to attack with all its force during its first turn after being attacked or if it can forgo attacking?

    Any help would be awesome.

    Cheers,

    Andrew

    1. No, you are not required to attack with your naval units; they can just park there and wave politely. If you do attack, then yes, you may elect to retreat after any round of combat is completed (i.e. after the defenders roll).

    2. I think you are asking about reinforcing a contested territory as the player who initially possessed it. Either side may reinforce without combat, as the status of “contested” gives no preference to the side who owned it previously.
