People on FB and here are continuing the discussion of subs–worthless or worthy, so I’ma gonna pull this plan back up to the top as an example of a detailed, sub based plan.
Operation Felix
-
Operation Felix was an Axis plan to take Gibraltar by going through Spain. It never happened because Franco denied permission.
I thought that would be a perfect counter to Gibastion.
G1: ignored SZ’s 110, 109, 91 to encourage Gibastion. Take Southern France and Normandy with 7 fast movers (1 died)
UK1: move all boats to SZ 92. 3 fighters to Gibraltar, one to Algeria with two transports worth of land units and one destroyer as blocker in SZ 94. Purchase air base and place in Gibraltar.
I1: all boats to SZ 93, all planes, tank, 2 art, 2 inf invade Spain.
G2: buy 10 transports. Wipe out all planes on Gibraltar with 3 tanks, 3 mechs and a bunch of planes that can land in Spain. The large UK fleet is now trapped in Med and can’t get back to defend against Sea Lion, and no more planes.
I2: purchase air base for Spain. All the German planes in Spain can now legally hit London on G3
G3: easy Sea Lion
I know everyone will freak out over the 14 free infantry on Russian border so I am playing out entire game to see if Felix will be Axis downfall
14 free infantry are at worst an annoyance. I7 is next and there are only 5 French infantry in Caucasus left out of 14.
Game looks like it will end on J10 most likely.
I’m growing bored and want to move onto my next crazy strategy but I will keep going and try to finish the game.
Please feel free to watch my videos and hopefully subscribe etc.

Nice
@The-Captain has a House rule for his mod you might find interesting
-
Ha. I searched this board for Felix when I first thought of this strategy and found that.
I figured since mine is round one it’s wildly different
-
is this selfplay or against an opponent, and against what caliber of opponent if so?
what kind of allied bid is being used?
-
Keep in mind that a neutral crush will nullify the Sweden NO for Germany. Attacking both Normandy and Southern France creates better odds for a wild Paris battle. When Japan Dow’s needs to be stated in regards if US is in the war or not round 1. Round one buys for UK and Germany need to be stated. Things to consider with this.

Solo no bid
-
I guess you didn’t watch the videos. I cover loss of NO and many other consequences of turn one neutral hit.
One thing I did as Axis is not declare war on Russia to keep the free infantry out of Russia as long as possible.
I also didn’t place a warship in 125 to give Russia choice of $5 or allied units on its soil.
Playing solo I passed on the $5 but I know some people would go for $5
-
@dazedwit my biggest concern with any neutral axis take is giving up Afghanistan to the allies. Specifically that allows them to move planes to and from Russia and India in a turn. That in my experience becomes a tough thing to deal with. Just my two cents. Will watch and see how it turns out.
-
I cover Afghanistan in my videos. Turns out much less of an issue than Turkey free troops.
I’m on turn 8 and only 5 French troops in Caucasus left out of the 14 so the worry about free troops is much larger than reality
-
so how did this compare to other more typical play patterns? OOB without a bid is going to be easy for axis no matter which path you take, so it’s really a question of how it compares to alternatives.
French troops in caucasus seems odd, it’d be much better to wait a turn and give the land to britain.
It sounds like the allied play didn’t really try to properly leverage the vulnerabilities of such a move.

My videos are me playing the entire world to see what happens when I give away so many free infantry
J8 positioned to take VC 6 in Hawaii with boats currently staggered to keep out large American fleet for two turns
Since G3, Germany has been gasping for air trying to knock Russia out of Europe. Russia collected $21 in NO 3 straight turns before Germany finally kicked them out but Russia came right back in and collected $9 in NO.
So Germany ain’t winning this game for another 10 turns. And America going to liberate London next turn (US8) so Germany probably never winning this game.
Japan went Australia first so FEC became a monster. US took Caroline turn 7 with all its boats. Japan used Sydney and Tokyo naval bases to launch boats to all spaces between Caroline and Hawaii and bought 3 fully loaded transports to join transports coming from Sydney. Hawaii is going to fall and America has multiple blockers to get through so this game over J10
My vids are typically under 10 minutes a pop so not like I’m asking you to read War And Peace

I just dislike youtube videos, they’re far harder to manipulate and assess the map with; which also makes it harder to assess whether the various overall plays are sound enough for the data to be useful.
