When can the bombers attack the ferries in Stalingrad? Can you repair the ferries? Do the Urans card need to be in a specific order or do you shuffle them? Do you get those units for free or do you have to purchase them?

When can the bombers attack the ferries in Stalingrad?
As long as the weather permits it during the combat phase.
Can you repair the ferries?
No. But you can buy new ones to replace the destroyed ones.
Do the Uranus cards need to be in a specific order or do you shuffle them?
They should be shuffled thoroughly so each game is different than the others.
Do you get those units for free or do you have to purchase them?
They are free per the card. One card to the north and one card to the south.

@AndrewAAGamer Thanks for answering my questions! :)

@AndrewAAGamer So the stacking limit is 8 for every zone right? Do contested zones count? Or Assault Zones?
-
@AndrewAAGamer The Axis can’t buy units until Operation Winter Storm right?

Correct; each side may have only up to 8 land units in an area. Air units DO NOT count towards the stacking limit.
Do contested zones count?
Yes; a contested zone is like any other zone except that both sides have units in it at the same time.
Or Assault Zones?
There is no such thing as an Assault Zone. The Combat Markers, with “Assault” or “Battle” on them, simply represents there is a battle occurring in that area. Assault is for initial battles whereas Battle is for zones that were already contested.

Correct. Operation Winter Storm occurs 3 Turns AFTER Operation Uranus and at that point the Axis are free to spend their RPs. The Axis does get a free infantry every other Turn per the Order cards.
(Edited to correct Operations Names)
-
@AndrewAAGamer Huh that kinda seem tough for them. No extra units for a while.
-
@AndrewAAGamer Something is not adding up so if the Soviets wait till round 7 for Operation Uranus that means Operation Winter Storm happens at round 10 then the German can’t purchase units till round 13?
-
My Bad - got the Operations names mixed up. Three Turns AFTER Operation Uranus occurs is when Operation Winter Storm occurs and YES, that is when the Axis can by units.
Have edited the first reply to correct my error.
-
BTW, having Operation Uranus occur no later than Round 7 was a decision made during testing to ensure the Allies did not delay Operation Uranus so late in the game that the Germans would never bring in any additional troops via Operation Winter Storm.
What the testers tried to achieve was a back and forth contest. German forces at first are far more powerful than the Russians. Therefore, the Russian are battling to hold off the Germans as long as possible to give Operation Uranus as many troops as possible. Then, once Operation Uranus explodes onto the map the Germans are reeling and trying to maintain their gains while the Russians push them steadily back. Finally, can Operation Winter Storm occur with enough troops in time to reverse the recent Russian gains and give the Germans a victory or do the Russians hold on for their victory?
-
Interestingly, we found that if the Germans went for an all out Total Victory and failed they were normally so weak that Operation Uranus was usually very successful, so successful that it was very possible for the Russians to get the Total Victory instead.
Whereas, when the Germans played more conservatively, for a Major or Minor Victory condition, it was pretty much impossible for the Russians to get a Total Victory and they too were only fighting for a Major or Minor Victory.
Our goal was that two equally highly experienced players, with even dice, would both be fighting for a Minor Victory.
-
@AndrewAAGamer Would you say the Germans need to mainly focus are just getting to the city of Stalingrad with the starting pieces?
-
The Germans can only get into Stalingrad with starting pieces. By the time Operation Winter Storm comes along there is barely time to get to Pitomnik, less alone into the City.
