A&A: Spring 1942 game contents

Well I added Italy to my set so am using the Anniversary Edition '42 setup in which Japan goes first - but the Anniversary Edition setup still has the British units there by India. Guess I’ll just leave it alone.

First time on the the site, but I’ve loved what I’ve seen so far! There is a lot of great strategic advice, especially at the beginning of the game.

I was wondering if anyone had an picture of the game with all of the pieces placed prior to the first turn.  It would be great to be able to see the board and pieces in place, so I can envision the moves and see what the opposing players might try.  Maybe it’s because I’m a noob, but  I haven’t been able to memorize the board at the start yet.

Any help would be much appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

just picked up another copy at Target.  they had them on clearance at 50% off, or $15 each.

Yeah, I understand the reasoning of the rule and the need to change it from the old way, but we thought this went too far.  What we’ve done is left them defenseless but still able to be a casualty at any time in combat.  And if you’re attacking an undefended transport or transport fleet, you get three rolls per attacking unit to kill them and any survivors can retreat.

Maybe we’ll give this new rule a second chance next time.

Units of any type are not limited to the available pieces.  Simply use any item that’s agreed upon by all players as a substitute if you run out of a unit.

You probably heard about that strategy in connection with the Classic game (1984).  In those rules, units were limited to the available components.

Overall the changes are positive imho.  Revised is a classic game and deserves another run and the chance to appeal to a new generation.  AA42 takes the best innovations from Anniversary (ie naval rules and units) and applies them to Revised.  It should be interesting to see how the strategies change.  It’s also a good move to remove tech–Revised works better w/o tech because tech is about luck and detracts from the strategic aspect.  With dice, luck is already a sufficient factor in the game.

Could be a big hit.
