Non Combat Move Question

Hi Prey. All Air units land in non combat and they have the balance of their  unused movement: a Fighter has 4, so if they moved 3 in Combat, then they only have 1 left. Air units cannot land in a territory that has just been captured. They could land on an empty Carrier.

Etiquette for optional rules vary from group to group, but the rulebook says that they may be used “if all players agree”.

Just to be clear, this is only an optional rule in Classic.  In Revised, it’s a standard rule.

I agree, there’s not a lot of times you’d want to do that.  But I could see it in rare circumstances.  Usually transports, even unloaded ones (who leaves loaded transports out where they can be shot at?)

More fun is when someone forgets in AAR a submarine does not block enemy submarines and you sail under, sink his three aircraft carriers, submerge with your surviving submarines and watch his 6 fighters go sploosh in the Pacific Ocean.  It was a beautiful day.  He could have recovered easily, but the moral hit alone caused him to concede the game.  The best part is, submarines can’t shoot aircraft, so he HAD to take the carriers as casualties!

How often does that occur?  Like almost never!  Same with having a need to send fighters out to kill something and feinting at enemy ships to make the move “legal” even if you have no intention of ever recovering those fighters!

Yes, it does take 2 turns.

When you board an allied TRN, once on board you are “cargo” of the TRN.  That means that, upon boarding, you are part of the TRN, and your further movement passes to the TRN.  Then, on your nation’s NEXT turn, you can offload.

OM Page 31 :

Being carried on a transport counts as the land units entire move;  it cannot move before loading or after offloading.

Boarding is movement.  Offloading is movement.  Therefore, you cannot board, and them make another mvoement to offload in the same turn.

The real kicker for clarification is in LHTR.
LHTR uses the same wording in the description of transports… with one MAJOR clarification…

Land units belonging to friendly powers must load in their controllers turn, be carried on your turn, and offload on a later turn of their controller.
